Regarding the “Mickalene Thomas All About Love”
In my entire 28 years of visiting art museums, I’ve never seen a display this bad. The lack of talent, the lack of creativity, and the absolute degradation of the art form has led me to believe this new generation is perhaps the most talentless and Godless generation of all. Not one piece stood out, not one piece of art moved me emotionally. In fact, it seemed as if the whole point of this museum wasn’t to display the art, but to degrade art altogether. Parents, if you’re spending your hard earned money to send your child to art school in Toulouse, or if you know anyone who is, please pull them out immediately. From the ugly collage pieces, the photographs that meant absolutely nothing, the horrific illustrations, the overt sexuality shown, it’s self-evident that these students are not only learning nothing, but they’ll leave school to become nothing. To the students, I’d say spend less time in the mirror trying to look like an “artist,” and more time practicing so you don’t waste my time, and above...
Read moreWe went on free museum day so I booked tickets to go in in advance. Despite that there was a massive queue to get in which wasn’t moving. We got let in because a friend was in a wheelchair. Inside there were hardly any people. Hardly anyone seemed to be let in. There was a full compliment of staff on the ticket desk doing nothing. Very strange. We were there between shows so a lot of the building was empty of art (as well as. Visitors) and we seemed to walk around a lot seeing as there were areas we couldn’t pass through. It looks like it does show great art but our experience was just ‘meh’. If they put enough effort into getting people in as they did to making sure we used the lockers this place would be amazing. Also, on the way home I met someone who had been in the queue for 30 mins and didn’t get in - with a booked free...
Read moreLes Abattoirs is a contemporary art museum in Toulouse. It is located near the Garonne riverside and next to Jardin Raymond VI park. The building that the museum is located in is lovely, with plenty of art pieces displayed outside. I was only able to peruse part of the museum, as an area was closed on the day that I visited. Of the exhibits that I viewed, I thought they were not to my liking. Contemporary art is more subjective and more prone to criticism. There are some visual art pieces that I viewed that seemed odd and did not appeal to my tastes. Looking online, it seems like the museum changes exhibitions frequently, so this may be more a dislike for a certain artist's work rather than for the museum itself. I would consider visiting again if there was an exhibition that I was...
