It is here, where Mikhaïl Yurievich Lermontov wrote his famous poem Mziri ( The Novice). I’m posting just a little paragraph. On the pictures below you can see the matching names and places. Enjoy! However it’s even better to go and see it 😉

A few years ago,

There whereas, plums, noise,

Embraced, like the two sisters,

The streams of Aragva and Kura

There was the monastery. Beside the mountain

And now the pedestrian sees

The pillars of the collapsed gate,

And the tower and the church vault;

But not much is smoked under it

The spoons bless fragrant smoke,

Not to hear the singing in the late hour

Of the begging monks for us.

Now the gray-haired old man,

The half-dead guard of the ruins,

By the people and by the death is forgotten,

Sweeps away the dust from the gravestones,

Whose the inscription says

About the glory of the past - and about that

How depressed by his crown,

Same king, in same year,

To Russia have handed his people. And God's grace come in

At Georgia! It is blossomed

Since then, in the shadow of their gardens,

Do not fear of an enemies

Behind the face of the...

I recently visited a remarkable monastery, built in the fourth century, which offered an enriching and peaceful experience. One of the most fascinating aspects of the monastery is the flourishing blackberry bush next to the altar, where St. Nino once hid. This historical plant adds a unique, tangible connection to the past.

Inside, the icon of St. Nino, containing 21 holy parts, is a focal point of reverence and spiritual significance. The nuns were gracious hosts, providing deep insights into the monastery's history and the life of St. Nino. The serene gardens and well-preserved architecture further enhance the tranquility of the site.

Overall, this ancient monastery is a must-visit for its profound historical roots, spiritual ambiance, and the captivating story of St. Nino that continues to...

i visited it in 2013 Samtavro is an Orthodox Christian monastery complex that combines Samtavro Transfiguration Church and Nunnery of St. Nino in Mtskheta, Georgia. Built presumably in the 4th century by the King Mirian III, and reconstructed in the 11th century by the King George I and Catholicos-Patriarch Melchizedek I, Samtavro is an important Early and High Medieval historical and architectural monument, protected by UNESCO. Samtavro church is cross-in-square temple, with archature [sic?] and other decorations typical for the 11th century Georgian architecture. Я не знала, что там мощи святого старца. Но когда подошла к ним, это было как оказаться в магнитном поле. Можно закрыть глаза, и все поплыло. Очень мощная энергетика. Я молилась и благодарила.
