This is a place where you get to feel like you've just arrived to Italy!

It is indeed a perfect replica of a Roman villa with all its beauty and decor! I bought a 6 EUR ticket (only cash payments possible) and enjoyed a stroll around the villa admiring the details and colors, so vivid and vibrant! Plenty to see - statues, sculptures, paintings, pottery and other roman artefacts are displayed on both floors. Unfortunately all the information was available in German only.

The indoor yard with glass roof and a fountain in the middle is the centerpiece of the villa and is so photogenic and just amazing to be in. The surroundings were beautifully decorated - from a garden of red roses, wisterias, huge agave plants in the pots to other Mediterranean flora such as fig trees and wine. Visited in June 2022.

Von den gemütlichen Schlafzimmern bis hin zum spektakulären Bankettsaal wird jeder Raum im Pomoejanum kunstvoll inszeniert. Die beeindruckende Vielfalt an römischen Antiquitäten und die exquisite Einrichtung machen den Besuch zu einem unvergesslichen Erlebnis.

Die Entstehung des Pomoejanums begann bereits im 19. Jahrhundert, als sich der Architekt Friedrich von Gärtner in Pompeji inspirieren ließ und eine Blütezeit der Pompeji-Rezeption einsetzte. Friedrich von Gärtner baute das Markgräfliche Schloss in Bayreuth im Pompejistil um und schuf somit den Präzedenzfall für die Fascination des deutschen Bürgertums mit der Antike. In den 1980er Jahren erweckten die Architekten Georg und Brigitte Kuderer den Traum vom Bau eines eigenen Pomoejanums in Aschaffenburg zum Leben und errichteten das Museum in nur wenigen Jahren.
