Not worth it at all. I didn't know it required a ticket, so it was the first unpleasant surprise. 4.50€ for a landmark visit... meh. There are some small art exhibitions inside, but they're really secondary and don't justify the price for the whole complex.

The condition of the whole complex is terrible. Most parts of the fortress haven't been maintained for decades, some are even blocked off because, apparently, are so bad that became dangerous to walk on. Grass and bushes are growing through walls and cobblestones. Some restoration works which have been done anyway (not a lot of them) are made in the cheapest way possible - for example, I could see a lot of bricks which looked like they came from the nearest Baumarkt for a discount or plastering in some weird colors. The staff is rather unfriendly too. After all, it's in Spandau which I would avoid altogether, and I say it even after experiencing many other unpleasant areas of Berlin.

On a positive note - sights are still fairly good, for example climbing on the top of Juliusturm was nice or just looking outside standing by the wall too. But I wouldn't ever visit it again for this price or having to spend more than 15 minutes to get there.

Maybe city and district officials would try to steal less first (which shows both in the complex and surrounding Spandau which is extremely run down), give the place some care and desperately needs not to fall apart during next years, and only later ask for an...

Such a lovely place hidden away. Me and my mother spend quite a bit, around two hours just exploring around various museums and galleries. It was amazing to see that Berlin had such an old structure still standing. Also it teaches how the Berlin has been expanding over the years. Spandau used to be its own separate city until it was incorporated into the city of Berlin. Also that Slavic tribes used to be way further in to the Germany. Which is not surprising because the Poland is close. The cost of the entrance was just 6.50 €. The view from the tower is lovely allows to see much of the old town Spandau and some parts of West Berlin. The around the citadel is a lovely walking path some cute swans are swimming en enjoying their quiet side. Spandau in general is a lovely quiet part of the Berlin. There is an interesting museum of old removed statues from all around Berlin. It is a good place to see how much the much people change about their view of some rulers. I don’t think that a lot of people would approve that old statues would be saved where I am from as people see destruction as only possible solution for...

I saw this was one of the top tourists spots in berlin, so I decided to visit the next day after finding it.

I visited sunday morning, the ticket shop opens at 10:00 am sharp, and the ticket costs 4.5 euro. This does not include any audio aids or tours, as those are extra.

There was literally noone there on sunday morning, which made the exploring much better, as I pretty much the whole structure all to myself.

The first building to visit is the tower, which was enjoyable, particularly as you can get to the very top and have an amazing view of Berlin.

Next you can walk along the top of the walls and see the lake that surrounds the castle, as well as trees and the like.

Lastly theres several buildings inside the structure, which have a lot of varied historical items on display.

Theres a building with cannons of many types, up until world war artillery. Theres another with old cars, and tools, representative of the areas history. As well as other things as well.

All in all a very worthwhile visit, took me 2 hours to go through the whole thing. All that for 4.50 euro is a good deal.

The tower is the main attraction of this place, in my opinion. The historical museum area nearest the tower is interesting as well and has some good information about the site and some artifacts to look at. There are other parts of the site you can visit -- eg, an art museum/exhibit, and also other parts of the site where you can see its old structures and architecture. It's not exactly "exciting", but it has some historical value and the entrance fee is low enough that it is of decent value despite its lack of "fireworks". The climb to the tower is something kids can do (toddlers might get tired of the climb), and the view of the town from the top is a great reward. There is a viewing-scope (telescope) at the top that I think you can use a coin to use. It was a great experience for me to walk around the inside of the tower and imagine how it must have been to be an ancient person using the tower in a similar way long ago in the past. What fun!

Spandau district is an excellent area to visit if you are in need of more restful period in Berlin. With S-Bahn it takes less than 30 minutes from Zoologischer Garten to Rathaus Spandau. And from there some 15 minutes’ walk to the Zitadelle. But do also visit the Spandau’s old town. At the Zitadelle you can take a scenic stroll or you can spend the whole day visiting the various attractions. The entrance fee is only 4,50 euros and it covers just about everything. There are several historical museums, art centers, bastion structures etc. A café is also available. Some spots are little ragged, but some sceneries are just wonderful, like the view from the top of the Julius Tower. The Bismarck special exhibition at the Zeughaus was both informative and fun with playful contemporary art works. It is available to the 1st of April 2024.
