This chair lift in Boppard, Germany is a great one. Prices to go up and/or back down are fair, and the operating hours are also good too.
The lift takes about 20 minutes in a single direction and traverses a good amount of mountainside. It fluctuates constantly in how high above ground it is, which is one of the more quirky things about it that makes it interesting. The harness system is plenty safe as long as you're not jumping around and it includes a comfortable foot rest as well. Entry and exit is very quick and organized, and dogs are even allowed. --they can be carried in your lap or have their own seat if you prefer.
At the top of the mountain, there's 2 restaurants with great views of the Rhein below. The closer restaurant serves a full menu while the farther restaurant is really just coffee and cake. Prices at these 2 restaurants are a little high given the touristy nature of them.
Also at the top of the mountains are great little hiking trails and mountain bike trails. ... but there's a standard road too if you prefer.
Overall worth going up the mountain just for the view really. The rest is a cherry on top.
I suggest walking up the mountain path to the top for the exercise and then using the chair lift to come back down. That way you get the best of both worlds: Good exercise on the way up with relaxation at one of the restaurants and then a great view for photos on the way back...
Read morePromptly opened at 10 am. We were among the first to enter. At 8.50 euro adult and 4.50 child return, seems fair for nearly 20 min ride in each direction. Ride wa smooth and safe, helpful assistants at both ends.Yet not boring at all, given the views. We took it both up and down as did the hike to Hubertus viaduct right after this. Saw several people struggling up on the hiking path that runs parallel and sometimes crisscrossing underneath the cable car route. The suppose it would be best to go up by cable car one way and return down by hike as it would give better views, else the Rhine views would mostly to ones back going up. At the top, a few min walk brings one to the Gedeons eck restaurant and panorama blick. Best to reach 10-11 am soon after the cable car starts to get best views without interrupting those sitting to eat but the restaurant does open at 10 as well if one wants something to eat or drink. A further 10 min walk brings one to the so called 4- lake view of the Rhine but it was nothing much, probably just a way to attract people to the restaurant there. One can approach by car from the back roads to this point , there is plenty of parking. Only after coming down did we notice free parking spots for visitors to cable car but we had already parked at the large paid parking lot nearby. Also there are a couple of toilets to the side of the...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We visited the Boppard chairlift on Sunday, August 10th, 2025, and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The lady at the ticket booth was incredibly friendly and even allowed us to use the restroom before our ride. The ground staff at the chairlift were also very polite and welcoming, which immediately set a positive tone for our visit.
The ride itself takes about 20 minutes up and another 20 minutes down, reaching roughly 900 meters in height. The views are absolutely breathtaking you can see the Rhine River in all its beauty, along with a stunning panoramic view of the entire town of Boppard.
It’s worth noting that this experience might not be ideal for those with a fear of heights, but for everyone else, it’s an unforgettable and peaceful journey. The gentle ride, friendly staff, and spectacular scenery make this a must-do when visiting the area.
Highly recommended for couples, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy one of the most beautiful views in the region. We’ll definitely be...
