A Green Escape in the Heart of Essen: Stadtgarten Review
Essen's Stadtgarten offers a welcome respite from the city bustle. Whether you're seeking a peaceful stroll, a fun family outing, or a dose of nature, this beautiful park has something for everyone.
Here's what impressed me:
Tranquil Oasis: Lush greenery, calming fountains, and serene walking paths create a relaxing atmosphere. It's the perfect place to unwind and de-stress after a busy day. Family Fun: Playgrounds with slides, swings, and climbing structures keep the little ones entertained for hours. There's also a miniature railway for a charming ride through the park. Historical Charm: The Stadtgarten boasts a rich history, evident in its beautiful old greenhouses and the Grugapark, a former botanical garden. Something for Everyone: Garden enthusiasts will love the diverse flora, while fitness buffs can enjoy jogging or cycling paths. There's even a rose garden for a touch of romance. A Few Things to Keep in Mind:
Limited Food Options: While there are snack kiosks, packing a picnic might be a good idea for a longer stay. Parking: Parking can be limited, especially on weekends. Consider taking public transportation or cycling for a more eco-friendly visit. Overall, Stadtgarten is a delightful urban escape that caters to all ages and interests. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a break from the city or a fun...
Read moreThe beginnings of the park go back to the year 1859. In 1877 the Bürgerpark became the first public park in Essen to become municipal property. It has been called the Stadtgarten since 1881.
In the 1980s, the city garden lost a few hectares in area due to the construction of the Sheraton Hotel in the west and the Aalto Theater in the north.
The Essen city garden is now 6.87 hectares the largest green area in the inner city area. Between some lawns it offers older trees, two playgrounds and a central pond with a fountain.
In addition, some works of art were set up in the city garden over the years. The oldest sculpture from 1905 is the fairy by Wilhelm Nida-Rümelin. The location for a reciting or free speaking person was set up in 1987 by Wolfgang Liesen. The three really great minds of the artist Thomas Schütte have stood in front of the attached pavilion on the...

Basketball hoops, football gates, ping-pong tables, 2 areas for children (with 2 big slides), an artificial lake with birds living on it + a fountain quasi in the middle of the lake. Why 4 starts then? Because the lake is not really good taken care of and also it is full of people making a grill there all over the place = smoke all over the place, also where the children are to play, which i do not find healthy for their...
