If you're in Füssen, I would visit Hohes Schloss. The courtyard possess lovely illusionist façades and the walk up furnishes one with a lovely view of the Lech River and the St. Mang Church. You can also go inside and see a nice collection of paintings in a one-of-a-kind setting. The gallery is a branch of the national gallery so there are some impressive works here (and also next door in the Stadt Museum). A visit to the monastery and church make for a nice rainy day activity with little expense. A walk around the adjacent Baumgarten (the hilly park just outside of the castle) is an added treat.

For people who grew up with castles, Hohes Schloss is probably somewhat boring, but for people who are not accustomed to them, I think...

The High Castle of Füssen is a marvel of late Gothic architecture and stands as one of Bavaria’s most well-preserved medieval fortresses. I was particularly impressed by its intricate facades and towering turrets, symbols of the wealth and power of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg. The illusionist paintings adorning the walls and ceilings inside create a unique, immersive experience. Housing an impressive collection of art and historical artifacts, the castle offers a deep dive into the region’s rich history and culture. Visiting the High Castle is not only a cultural enrichment but a journey back into the fascinating medieval era. A must-visit for anyone interested in history and...

The summer residence of the prince-elector of Augsburg is a typical, german "burg"style medieval and renaissance castle, high above the town of Füssen. The courtyard facades are adorned by ingenious trompe l'oeil paintings that make it look more elaborate than it really is. The result is impressive notheless, with false windows painted as if they were ajar. You can visit religious painting exibitions inside and climb three towers and walk along the battlements. What luck that the castle is perched above the old town, for I guarantee you'll be very thirsty!
