We went up towards the end of September at 8am in the morning and it was cold at the top (just above freezing) and the pavers on the top still had ice on them so we had to be careful moving around. The benefit was that there were no other tourists at the time we went as the others in the cable car were all skiers, climbers and hikers who disappeared soon after arrival. The views were amazing with some cloud cover mostly on the Austrian side (you can take a cable car from there as well which operates for an extended time and with more frequent operation from what I saw) that cleared up soon after we arrived.

Worth the money to visit, the cable car ride was amazing both up and down. Ask to open one of the windows to take photos as the perspex is all scratched on the cable cars, we went back down at 9:30 and were the only two in the cable car apart from the operator. The ride up was packed so no chance to take photos.

There are restaurants but we didn't check them out and a souvenir shop.

If you take the funicular train up or down this terminates at the glacier level so there is another cable car that takes you to and from the summit. As we were staying at Lake Eibsee and had limited time we took the cable car up and down.

Time required depends on what you want to do (eat, drink, play with snow), how many people are up there and how many photos you want to take. We could have done this in 45 minutes as there were no other tourists but the return cable car was not until 9:30 so we kept looking.

Cogwheel train ride starts from here and its up to Zugspitz. This station is just a 5 minute walk from the 'Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bahnhof (Main station)'. Full ride is about 70 minutes with hourly departures. You can experience Zugspitz and Obersee . Make sure to come early atleast 30-45 min before train departure as they limit capacity of people that can get inside and it’s first come first serve basis. It is very overcrowded! Winter time they closed the ticket sale early. Some people missed the train rise because the ticket sale was closed for the day, however next day ticket was available. So please plan accordingly. Check the schedule for times because it does not run late in the evening. Best way to buy ticket in advance and reach there early on the journey date. Ticket price is expansive (72 euro). The train goes very slowly and passes through a very long tunnel. If you want to enjoy the scenic view, then try for cable car. However, still it will be a pleasant and enjoyable journey through the mountain. This cogwheel rail will take you from Garmisch to Eibsee, you can take a cable car from Eibese else you can continue this train till Zugspitzplatt. You can take this train one way to the top and return it by cable...

I visited here in Mid Aug 2022. You need to Buy ticket of 63 euro per adult from Garmisch. A little cooler up here, so bring a sweater. Lunch is a little expensive, but you pay for the view. Wear good walking shoes. You can also hike. Beautiful hike and great views from the peak! It’s definitely more rewarding to hike rather than to take the lift, and if you have an overnight at Knorhutte, it isn’t hard to hike both ways. Breathtaking views, few nice cafes on the top to go and enjoy a light snack/ meal or a coffee. Would really recommend, even if you aren’t a skier! The top of Germany is a wonderful tourist spot. There's a cogwheel train to take you up till the skiying ground and from there by cable car. There's another ropeway cable car that takes you from foothills to the peak. There are several viewing platforms and restaurants. The peak is divided between Germany and Austria.

What a waste of time and money! It is the highest summit of Germany and yes the view is nice. But… The cable car was under maintenance and we had to take the train up to Zugspitze. It only went every other hour - we waited after ticket purchases (75€ per person!!) for 45min. Then it was so crowded that we had to stand in a very warm and smelly train. That train takes 45 min up the mountain. Lucky us it got stuck in a tunnel for 1h until we needed to leave the train and board another. Over all it took up our entire day and a lot of nerves and energy!! And when we were up, clouds covered Eibsee.. well - just take a nice hike instead or the cheaper ride to Wank!
