Thang Long — Restaurant in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Lousy management and very disorganized. I went there with my wife. we didn't have a reservation so that's our fault although it would have made little difference.

We're English speakers so that didn't help the situation because they don't speak ANY English although you think they would since Garmish is such a touristy place. But whatever.

After waiting for several parties in front of us get their tables, we finally moved to the front of the line. My wife spoke for us but it was clear the girl who greeted us didn't understand her.

So we stood there at the counter for about 10 minutes. Then they decided to talk to me since my wife had to answer her phone. They must have thought I was by myself because they gave me the same 20 minutes waiting time they told my wife.

At this point I got kind of annoyed and went outside. I waited outside for about 20 minutes and the my wife signaled me to go inside.

When we got to our table then things really got bad. We ordered our food and drinks. After about 15 minutes our drinks came. Then the food came in about another 15 minutes.

My wife ordered a shrimp curry. Her order came. We also got some spring rolls and a little bowl of soup was placed in front of me. I ordered pho so I'm pretty sure that's not it.

I told the waitress I didn't order that soup and she left with it. My wife ate her dinner. I waited. My wife finished her dinner. I was still waiting.

At that point I pulled out my phone to type what I wanted to say in translator. I wanted to make sure I didn't get charged for anything I didn't order.

When I showed my phone to the the lady that appeared to be the manager she was surprised and quickly apologized. She showed our ticket to our waitress. After a quick exchange between them the manager apologized again.

She offered to make my pho but I was ready to leave and declined her offer. I didn't want to sit back down and make my wife watch me eat even though I watched her eat. I figured once was enough.

In short, I think if you go there on a night that isn't busy then maybe you'll have a nice dining experience. If you go on a busy night like we did then bring your patience because it wasn't just us. There were plenty of people waiting to get their food and not all meals came out at the same time.

Many people were watching others at their table eat.

I know this review won't change the caliber of service and management here but at least it may save someone an unpleasant dining experience and money.

As for the food? My wife said her meal wasn't anything worth all that trouble. Unfortunately I can't confirm or deny because I have no idea what their food...

I enjoyed the food more than the service. The waiter forgot to put in our order of fried noodles and fried rice as side dishes. We asked him when it was coming out after we had got all our other food items and he said "yeah" hesitantly that it was "on it's way". Then he spoke in his native language to a woman and she came over to our table and said, "you want order more food? Fried rice and fried noodles?" We said we had already ordered it and she said okay and walked away. Then after we finished all our food they still didn't come out with those sides and I went up to the desk to speak to her privately about it. I tried my hardest to explain that we had ordered it before with all our other food when we first came in. She spoke very little English and kept insisting that no I didnt I just ordered it now. Then she kept trying to speak to me in German. I don't speak german she knows this so why she kept talking to me in German I have no idea. I was getting so frustrated, but she finally understood me and still had the audacity to say oh well we ask the other guy. Excuse me? So are you calling me a liar? I know what I ordered when I sat down. The server just didn't get it all down right and he even lied to us and told us it was on its way out before he told her something and just completly disappears. I was very calm the whole time and trying my hardest to have patience because there is a language barrier, but I was just taken back and I laughed because at that point when she told me that I am not correct I just couldn't stand there and keep defending myself. I said that we will take it to-go and we left. They only take cash which is why I am also deducting another star because it is such an inconvenience. If you want above average food, forgetful and unrepentant service then this is the place for you. After everything she never even said she was sorry for...

It seems Thang Long firmly believes that great food is the cornerstone of a memorable dining experience, and while they've certainly nailed that aspect, a little more attention to customer service would elevate the overall experience.
