Kempten-Museum im Zumsteinhaus — Attraction in Kempten (Allgäu)

This museum has free admission although you have to get a paper wrist tag from the Museum Shop to enter the museum. The people in the Shop spoke fluent English and were friendly.

We put our backpacks in the locker room and visited the exhibits on the ground floor and were exiting. Then we were told that we can also visit the upper floors for free. Wow!

The floors above had a lot of local exhibits starting from the Roman times. Afterall, Allgäu is considered one of Germany's oldest Roman settlements. There is this stunning 3D model of the city with interactive light show - all encapsulated in 7 minutes.

The museum has audio-video guides in German as well as in English for many of the rooms. There were several ongoing exhibitions, which we learnt keeps changing.

Alongwith the story of the Zumstein merchant brothers and their fabric business, most of the history inside this museum is local and at quite specific to the city itself. This is good from knowledge perspective.

Great museum about the history of the city. The building itself is beautiful. The museum has great exhibitions, with different topics and lots of media and interactive elements. Can’t believe a museum in this quality is for free! I love the inclusive design for kids and visually impaired people. Lots of things to tough and listen too. Lockers are available. Absolut sehenswert! Das Museum bietet Eindrücke aus verschiedenen Bereichen und Zeiten. Es gibt in jedem Raum ein anderes Thema, in das man eintauchen kann. Besonders faszinierend fand ich persönlich die Historie Kemptens. Ein großflächiges 3D Model wurde mit einem Beamer beleuchtet und während eine Stimme vom Band erzählte wurden durch den Beamer die Effekte gesetzt. Selbst Kinder schauten sich diese Vorführung gebannt an. Auch für die Kleinen gibt es ein kindergerechtes Programm, dass sie durch die Zeitreise führt. Es geht dabei durch die Stoff- und Seidezeit, die Werkzeuge die in Fehlböden gefunden wurde bis hin zu antiken Arztpraxenzubehör. Die Sammlung ist liebevoll zusammengetragen und nach Themen sortiert zu einer Ausstellung aufgebaut.

Ein paar Infos an Rande: der Eintritt ist kostenlos, barrierefrei, behindertengerecht, die Etagen sind mit einem Aufzug zugängig. Es gibt ein gemütlich eingerichtetes Cafe, Schließfächer, Toiletten, auch behindertengerecht, Wickelraum und angrenzend einen wunderschönen Rosengarten mit Bänken und öffentlicher Toilette.
