This was my first visit since the new cable car Gondolas have been installed and the restaurant area rebuilt. I was last here several years ago. The new Gondolas are far more spacious and comfortable. On arrival at the top station it was busy. It hadn't seemed too bad when I arrived at the base station, but at the top it was madness. It was a Bank Holiday Monday and also half term had just started, along with it being a lovely warm day. The restaurant outside seating area was pretty crowded. Inside was still quiet, but I guess everyone wanted to enjoy the views and the weather. From the restaurant area there is a path which leads to the very top viewing terrace and the cross. That path was literally one solid queue of people either walking up or coming down. I've attached a photo taken from that top viewing terrace looking down to Königsee. It looks peaceful and idyllic doesn't it? However, what it doesn't show are the 30 or so people behind me all clammering for a place to take photos or annoying selfies. There was nowhere to sit or rest and it was far from tranquil. I walked down to the restaurant intending to have a meal, but it was so busy that I just had a beer and a Pretzel. The Jenner is undoubtedly a beautiful place to visit, but considering it wasn't even high season yet it was extremely busy and not particularly peaceful. I'd gone up early as well. By the time I came down the car park was full, whereas when I'd arrived it was maybe only a third full. You have to pay to park (€9) and the Jenner cost me (€39) using my tourist card. Was it worth it? I'm not so sure. I'd visited the Predigtstuhl the previous day and felt that was a far...
Read moreThe views from the top are beautiful, but we’ve been to other funiculars where the views can be even more breathtaking. It’s not worth to buy the ticket online, there was almost no waiting queue for the ticket office when we went today (13th August, around 11h00?) and that way they can take your Guest Card for a small discount. It’s expensive nonetheless, but we wanted to have this experience. However, you will not see the lake from above if you stay at the panoramic platform, even on the very top. You have to hike the trail, with uneven stones and no protection (you can easily fall off the trail… and really hurt yourself!), and it can be a workout especially if it is hot. So, not recommended for people with limited mobility. I believe this should be more clear for those buying the tickets to go up, as it can be a disappointment if you don’t want or simply can’t hike the trail that will lead you to the panoramic views with the lake. Also, we parked at the same big parking lot you use when you visit lake Königssee, but couldn’t understand if you could actually park near the funicular station or not (even though Google Maps says you can drive up to there, I believe you have to park at the big parking lot and walk to the...
Read moreWords can not describe how beautiful and awe-inspiring this was. Parking was smooth, with an area close to the entrance for drop off of our mobility challenged family member (me). Ticket purchase easy. Note that like a number of businesses in Germany, they do not accept American Express. They take plenty of other card options, though. Getting into the cable car and up the mountain was easy even with my limited mobility. The views, of course, can't be beat. At the top, my son and I visited the restaurant while my husband and daughter took the last short climb. My son and I enjoyed beverages and sat on the patio to take in the view. It was a terrific way to waste our time whole we waited. It's just amazing. My hubby and daughter said they were glad that took the cli.b, but said it was challenging. They mentioned some large steps, lots of rocks and gravel, and struggling some. However, they both said they were glad...
