You need to park your car in a paid parking. Then walk for a few minutes. You won’t miss the prominent building. You can put your stuff in a locker. You may not take anything with you although I saw people walking around with a bottle of water. You can get an audio guide in the shop. However all the staff was hardly speaking any other language than German. We could get our tickets by a few words we knew in German. But not easy. I was happily surprised by the collection. But yet again all the explanation was in German. The audio guide was in English but very very limited. There is much you would want to know about each piece but you just miss it. Such a pity. There’s a café where you can eat or drink something.

Very nice museum, i was really impressed by the huge collection of artifacts. Specially the Roman Tombs are insane. You can visit at least two to three hours here.. Also, they have a multimedia show at 12, extra cost, around these Roman tombs. So why 4 stars and not 5? Well, German signs all over the place, hardly anything in other language. You can get a free audio tour though. Another thing, the multimedia show, we took the Dutch language guide, but the sound in German was so loud, you could here it through the headphone. Also context about what you see is erm... Nowhere, honestly i had no idea what this show was about.... So yes, fantastic museum, could be better if they think more about other languages....

Really impressive and extensive collection covering the history of Trier and its surroundings. Starting in prehistoric times and ending with the phrase "after which Trier became an insignificant border town in the Moselle area." The history of Trier is a very interesting one which is obviously all due to its Roman past. As late capital of the western roman empire and overall very rich town in these times many things have been well preserved and the museum does a good job of giving an impression of the city back then. There's lots of information well laid out, however it is mostly in German. If you do not speak German I definitely recommend the free audio guide available also in french English and Dutch.

An exceptional collection of Roman antiquities from the area that are well displayed and extensively interpreted in German but much less so in other languages which is why this is a 4 star and not a 5 star review. I did use the audio guide but coordinating it with the displays was a challenge. Overviews of each hall or collection section are good in EN & FR but understanding individual objects was not possible without googling translations. More attention to this by the institution would certainly be in keeping with the significance of the collection. Even with these barriers we were extremely impressed!

If you truly want to understand the rich history of Trier and the surrounding regions, this museum is a must-visit. The collection is big and diverse and the different objects and artefacts are beautifully displayed with detailed descriptions. There is also an audio guide, included in the ticket price. When visiting Trier I would highly recommend first visiting the museum and afterwards exploring the different Roman historical sites throughout the city. They offer a great value combi ticket that allows entry to the major historical landmarks

Great museum in Trier! A great combo of history from several different time periods in Trier’s existence. An excellent collection of Roman history and espically mosaics! The mosaics here are some of the best preserved I’ve ever seen! Worth it just to come see them. It’s 8 € per person and they do accept card! Not many of the displays are in English and cellphone service is limited in the museum so hard to use google translate, that was the only slight inconvenience. There is a free audio for in English available tho!
