We drove some 30 km to see the lighthouse. Really not worth it. Covered in graffiti. Obviously a memorial to some people. Shipwrecked or soldiers of some war. But no one seems to care anymore. A coat of paint wouldn’t break the local economy and the experience would be all the better for it. We then tried to snorkel off the nearby beaches. Not an experience I would recommend. Read moreThe Saint Theodore Lighthouse, also known as Fanari Lighthouse, is a great place for peaceful and romantic sunsets. It is easily reachable by a car or taxi and also within a walking distance from Argostoli. It was built in 1828 by the British, destroyed in 1953 by the earthquake and then rebuilt in 1960 by the local architect according to its original architectural design. Sadly, today it is a bit desecrated by the graffiti. I would not say that it is a "must see" place on the island, but still I would visit it every time I am on holiday...
Read moreWe took a taxi from lassi to the llighthouse, and the ride cost €10 – totally worth it! The lighthouse itself and the whole area around it are absolutely beautiful. We had seen in a video that it was once badly covered in graffiti, but luckily it has since been repainted, and now it looks just as beautiful as it used to. There’s also a tiny beach nearby – if someone wants to, they can even go for a swim, although it’s quite a windy area. Relatively close by, there’s also a windmill.
