Accommodation - dated but clean and well maintained, all with fridge, free air conditioning and private balcony. Sea view rooms benefit from stunning sunsets. For the price, the room standard and hotel amenities is more than acceptable and represents great value.||Pool - well maintained and decent sized for swimming lengths. It was always empty when I swam over the 3 days I stayed. Plenty of sunbeds and tables and chairs. In October, the pool bar is unmanned but a receptionist will come and serve drinks upon request.||Standard of cleaning - flawless.||Breakfast - service top notch with the friendly and kind Ellen single handedly running the whole service. I particularly enjoyed the delicious pastries on offer each day, for example the spiral spanakopita (filo spinach pie) and mini sausage rolls. Machine coffee wasn’t to my taste but I brought my own favourite instant coffee from UK.||Garden - well maintained and beautiful October blooms to enjoy.||Location - a beautiful and scenic location on the Fanari Road, with several little coves dotted along the entire route , including one immediately opposite the hotel entrance. Just a 4 minute walk to the iconic St Theodore Lighthouse where the most incredible sunsets can be viewed and further along, Fanari Beach, 6 minutes away on foot. Airport is a 15 minute drive away (€25 taxi) and Argostoli a 10 minute drive away (€8).||Local Restaurants - the closest are both a 6 minute walk away along the Fanari Road, in the direction of Argostoli. The first belongs to the campsite and had already closed for the season when I arrived on 14/10/24. Next door is the welcoming TAVERNA TA DIDYMAKIA (see my separate review), currently open until 5pm each day. ||In Argostoli there are lots of restaurants to choose from which remain open all year round. The flat walk from the hotel to the main Argostoli harbour front restaurants takes around 40 minutes but it’s a scenic one and I found the time passed very quickly. ||Before reaching Argostoli, and a 30 minute walk from the hotel, is PALA PLAKIA TAVERNA (see separate review). This is a great quality and value traditional Greek restaurant overlooking the sea and Argostoli cruise terminal. Open only until 6pm and always full, mainly with locals. Does takeaway too. Another great value, typically Greek restaurant in Argostoli is PATSOURAS (see separate review) on the harbour front opposite Alpha Bank and close to the turtle viewing point.||Staff - welcoming and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and without even asking, they assisted me on numerous occasions and offered a great service to all their guests||From the Fanari Road where the hotel is located, there is no bus service from the airport or to Argostoli or Lassi. Hiring a car is advisable to reach restaurants and all the magnificent sights and beaches around the island. Car hire in October is incredibly good value at around € 11 a day with reputable car hire firms such as RENT CAR KEFALONIA based at the airport. Otherwise, taxis are available but become expensive if using regularly. In mid October, there were no restaurants open nearby in the evening so had a food delivery one night, walked to Argostoli and taxi back another and walked to Lassi and taxi back another. Bear in mind that in mid October, it’s dark by around 7pm and the Fanari Road is not well lit in parts.||Personally, I cannot fault the Galaxy Hotel for comfort, service and value for money. I wasn’t expecting much for the price I paid but it exceeded expectations. I would definitely return...
Read moreUnfortunately, despite the warm welcome, the staff working during my stay were unprofessional. Specifically, how they interacted with various other guests. Sure know. After visited more 40 countries..Rude Lady at breakfast It's a shame she's also a big woman..2 much Policing. The breakfast buffet watching you what you take. She came next to me while I was making breakfast then while I was eating he came a second time and well he cleaned my table while he didn't finish. They look at you strangely while you have paid for 1 week.. coffee tragic orange juice no comment. Water at breakfast stinks worse than toilet water..very clever they did breakfast 8.30 to 10.00 .normal hotel breakfast start 7.00 or 7.30 first time I see that..and uvailable 1.30 hrs 😀.I lost my breakfast and coffee the day I have been my trip Kefalinia and my flight erlier.but this reason they do 8.30.I go to all the islands of Greece. I have been to more than 40 countries I have never seen such rudeness before..I would also send you acquaintances but not now..the hotel is a 50 minute walk from Argostoli. quite far. you need transport because there is no bus. I had requested a change of room because I would stay for a long time .they don't care..internet doesn't work in the room.TV and air conditioning hardly works, remote control. if you are not in the room, the refrigerator does not work. in another hotel, if you take out a room card, it works again. and I threw away the ones I bought Cleaning is not good for the room. they don't put toilet paper only on the first day. shampoo too. you have to ask at the reception every day. They don't have a trash can in the room .no bin inside the room.Bathroom is flooding. The thing that comes out of the water needs to be repaired. You don't have to hang it for water and it's difficult to take a bath.Area full of mosquitoes.no hair dryer in the room also.I have not encountered such treatment after visiting 40 countries. It can be a good honor but also a guest to go somewhere respect the person.a Otherwise, raise the price.Pool enough chlorine .Then you will complain, we go to Turkey, they respect the tourist. They think tourists are stupid.only nice this hotel its the dog and the girl from the reception friendly. I have been 2 more times after that never again to this place. Lefkada is quite nice...
Read moreRecently returned from what should have been an 11 night stay at the Hotel Galaxy. Only spent 1 night there due to being extremely disappointed in the Hotel. I knew when I booked that it would be basic, as I've been in lots of basic accommodation in Greece .. but was shocked to see the state of this hotel and rooms. Our room was 220 at the back. The room was disgusting and dirty .. we had a table top fridge that was on the floor. It hadn't been cleaned as it had brown liquid in there and smelt..plus it was rusty. There was clumps of hair on the floor and on the balcony. The Aircon unit dripped all over the dressing table which shouldn't have been coming in the room it should have gone on the outside of the room .. it dripped all down the wooden doors and stained them it looked awful. We had two small metal tables as bedside tables. There was no where to put anything in the room. So had to bring in the table off the balcony just for surface space. We asked for a kettle as we knew when booking that it didn't state a kettle.. although in the room directly opposite us had a worktop with kettle cups spoons and an under worktop full size fridge. They brought us up a silicone camping kettle no cups or spoons on a tray that had never been wiped. In the morning we went down for breakfast . The buffet table had a glass top on it and the table cloth underneath had never been washed. The lady that was serving breakfast had an abrupt manner when asked for ketchup she nearly bit my head off. One holidaymaker that me and my husband saw at breakfast was helping herself to handfuls of food picking food up with her bare hands and placing it in a bag next to her on the seat. There were serving tongs available to pick up the food with so there was no ex cuse. And I could go on .... The only plus for us was the location. Basically a very tired Hotel that desperately...
