I have found an ill kitten one day before we finished our holidays and i took to my hotel room and brought he the next morning to the Vet. As i could not forget the little one i contacted from the Airport Gouves Shelter to ask if it is possible to adopte and they promissed to get in contact with the Vet. The answer came very quick, when i arrived 3 hours later in Switzerland i had alredy an answer. They wrote me that it is possible to do an adoption to Switzerland. I was so happy! Then i got an adress of a Volonteer. She wrote me that she will go to the doctor the next Monday and send me some phots and videos of the kitty, because I forgot. After my holidays i opened extra an Facebook account to get in contact with the volonteer.
I waited till saturday before i contacted Gouves Shelter directly because any reaction of the volonteer. I understand if there could be an emergency, thats why i waited almost one week. Shelter motivated me to contact again the volonter and wrote me that the kitten is still at the vet and she has made some photos. So i got in contact with her again via WhatsApp. For that reason i deactivated my Facebookaccount the same day i contacted Gouves Shelter, because i was one week without answer on my facebook. (Maybe she wrote to another person, named the same name as me, but she should have checked) As i contacted the volonteer via Whats App she wrote me that the kitten is well and is placed now in Greece, the same day. 😟 At the beginning no answer and then it went so quick???? Strange!!! I am so disappointed about the different information and the chaos they made. It seems to me that they never wanted to help me, only in case they found no foster in Greece. I WILL NEVER GO TO GREECE AGAIN. THEY DON'T APPRECIATE FOREIGN HELP AND IT IS SO NECESSARY THERE. MY HEART IS BROKEN THERE ABOUT SO MANY...
Read moreWe went here and it was amazing! If you come here know that feeding time is 9am-11am so you can visit, play with the dogs and cats or walk a dog between 11am-17:00 (google says they're closed between 12-14:00 but that's not true) The dogs were so sweet, some where a little scared-we took one for a walk and she was quite anxious the volunteers informed us that her brother was adopted two weeks ago to Germany so she's been a little upset on her own since, she found her confidence as we got to the beach and seemed to enjoy it. We also played with the cats for a bit and they were again just so sweet, some wanted to be left alone, some came straight up to you for pets others took a little time to feel more confident with strangers. If you can take a dog for a walk or even just play with the animals they would really benifit from it. We even got to name a dog-we chose the name 'pepper' (we were told that if they have a dog who needs a name for those who donate €20 can choose a name) donations are welcome (both financial and material such as leashed, blankets, food etc)
We also walked another dog 'Lucky' a boy a different day and he was honestly just so sweet and easily adoptable due to his nature-he was good with us and with children we met on the beach that wanted to say hi, good with other dogs, knew how to walk on a leash and he was so calm too, I even sat with him in his cage and my heart broke that I couldn't take him but I know he enjoyed that walk. Honestly this is a great place. Thank you...
Read moreI found a video on TikTok about the animal shelter so did some further investigating about visiting whilst on our holiday and I’m so glad I did!! Lovely friendly staff who welcome you in to have a look round and see the dogs in the shelter. Some are very nervous which is sad to see but who knows what they went through before getting to the shelter and others want some love and attention. They all get super excited and noisy when leads and food come out :) you can ask to walk dogs and the staff will get you to wait outside the main gate and bring them out to you. If it’s really hot then you can only walk them after 5pm. It’s right next to the beach so the walk is lovely and the dogs are happy and excited to be out. There is also a garden where dogs are free roaming and you can go in with them and sit with them, pet them and give them lots of cuddles. There is also a cat corner that you can go in too. The shelter relies on donations as they get no government help. I had read about people taking things from the local pet store with them so we did and the donations of dog/cat food were very much appreciated. The lady at the pet store helped recommend things they would need. You can also donate through PayPal or sponsor a dog or cat. We loved taking dogs out for a walk and it was a huge highlight of our holiday! I didn’t want to leave. Could have happily walked dogs up & down all day! Absolutely recommend a visit if you’re a...
