We decided to go eat a bit before getting to Cretaquarium from the bus stop, so we enter and we see a blackboard with some dishes in Greek, most of them ranging from 3 to 3.5 euro. She greets us and asks us what we would like to eat, we tell her something fast and cheap, no need for much. She serves us some olives, a bit of bread and water, and a bit of a Balkanic salad which is put on bread + 2 small crunchy breads with cheese and tomato on top.
We decide it was enough for us, (even more than what we wanted) and asked her how much it would be, to which she responds 8 euro. We had no choice but to pay it, but for what we received I would expect around 3-4 euro so it's another case of "special treatment of tourists".
Last year we went to mainland Greece and we actually went to a place frequented mostly by Greeks, the owner did not scam us and offered us a plate with 2 souvlaki and enough fries to fill us for only 2 euro.
Tourists who come to Crete, beware of the prices, because many locals think we are fools that would gladly pay 3x what a local would pay for the same dish. Most tourists are not millionaires, many come to Crete from Russia, Balkan areas and some from Western Europe and the prices should not be...
Read moreThis is one of the most beautiful and authentic tavernas we have ever visited. You take a seat in a romantic atmosphere on a terrace surrounded by an olive plantation. Cordial, casual yet classic.
We immediately liked the landlady and waitress at the same time and she told us a lot about her time in Germany, speaking in very good German, which is difficult for non-native speakers and therefore admirable.
There is no need for a menu. We were asked what we like to eat and what not. Many delicious-sounding suggestions followed. We decided to try almost all of them and weren't disappointed with any choice (As we are vegetarians we can only vouch for the vegetarian dishes ;-) ). The cook is a true sorceress. All dishes were typical of the country, home-made and served with love. The kumquat jam made from their own recipe smelled like star cuisine and tasted like heaven.
We would like to thank the two ladies once again for one of the most beautiful evenings of our...
Read moreI holidayed in Crete for only 4 nights and 2 of those were spent dining in this beautiful restaurant. I ate beautiful fresh food, the chicken was so juicy and such a beautiful white colour. Well seasoned and tasty! I enjoyed the red wine. And really loved a complimentary sweet treat at the end of my meal. The price was low for what I got I thought! I met other lovely guests to the restaurant while I was there. I actually chose to go here due to good google reviews and they were true! The owners were so friendly and welcoming too- which was important to me as I was travelling solo. Also, there were gorgeous cats to keep me company which is a huge reason I visit Greece as often as I can! But if you aren’t a cat lover they don’t bother you if you don’t give them attention! I can definitely...
