Quite small historical landmark but nice view of the city. There is a 3 euros entrance fee. It was pretty much empty on a weekday at 11:00 am during August but it seems there are events organized inside cause we saw a small theater. We could not find a schedule for August though. We are not quite sure if possible to enter at night but could make for a nice night shot of the city. There was quite a few people walking uphill from the city but in mid August seemed quite a punishment with over 35 C degrees so we decided to take the car. It was possible to park outside for free, on the street like pretty much anywhere in the Peloponnese.

It was a nice historic place to visit. City view of Kalamata is visible on this area. We have seen a beautiful old structures located on top of the city. We drived on a small road going up the castle. There's a limited parking space infront and an attendant present on the information center to explain about the areas. We paid for an entrace ticket to view the place. Walking up is worth it with a fresh air awaiting and a captivating 360 view.

The castle is located in the northwestern part of the city of Kalamata, on a low rocky hill above the river Nedontas. Its foundation dates back to the Byzantine period, but its current form is due to a large reconstruction by a Frankish prince. It is small in size but the visitor will be compensated with the panoramic images he will see inside and outside the castle during his tour.

It’s a beautiful few from the top over Kalamata. It’s really small but nice to see. The opening hours are different during the year. So please have a look in what time of the year you are here. The entrance coats 3€ but if you are 25 or younger it’s free. If you have to pay for these 10 minutes it’s not worth it. Attached you can see the pictures of the few.

Very historic Castle! It has been a major feature in battles with the Byzantines, ottomans, venicians, slaves, and later Frank's. Do not miss the sign in front with short historical description. Also, note the renovations. By the Venetians and Greeks after theTurks blew up the cannon powder storage magazines. The older stonework is still visible
