Ta Rolla — Restaurant in Municipality of Kalamata

Wow. It was a just a lovely dinner. We were there for opening night of TBEX but there were too many people in the square. We were invited by a fellow blogger to join them.

We were so grateful that they did. It is a family owned restaurant and VERY reasonable with authentic Greek dishes.

My husband ordered a braised beef in a bed of creamy tahini/hummus that was delicous. I thought I had ordered something similar to a Spanish torta de papa but what I got was more like a French Canadian Poutine without the gravy.

It was French fries, shredded cheese topped with three fried eggs. It was still very good but not what I thought I had ordered.

After reading the reviews, we decided to try out the restaurant, Ta Rolla. We absolutely loved their food! If you want fantastic, traditional Greek food, this is the place to go to! The fried cod (Bakaliaro) was light, crispy and extremely tasty. It was accompanied with a side of garlic sauce was that was not overpowering and also very tasty. What a disappointment after such great reviews... dried -out -until-hard pastitsio, overcooked fish, beef in lemon with no hint of lemon. The saganaki cheese was ok as were the stuffed peppers, but I have to say it was the least impressive meal we have had in 10 days in the Peloponnese (mostly the food has been fabulous) Nothing was bad enough to send back but it was, at very best, depressingly average.
