Amazing trip. Beautiful view of the mountains around and the stream below. We came by car to kalavryta. The mountain road to kalavryta is spectacular and recommended, but at some places it is narrow and steep. If you take the train from kalavryta you can park the car for free on the streets around the station. When we arrived there was nobody at the ticket counter so we bought our ticket online (search for kalavryta Diakopto train). The train wasn't busy when we were there. Recommended seats are 131-134 on the way to Diakopto and 5,6,7,8 to Kalavryta. Other good seats are 113,114,117,118 and 23,24,27,28 because they are in front of the door when you have a view of the other side too. The seats are small and not...
Read moreA fabulous train route from the Peloponnese north coast up to the mountains! Sadly, all it has to offer is the natural beauty and that's all... The old steam train is replaced with a modern electric powered train, taking the magic away. The seats are uncomfortable (2 regular size persons have to squeeze) and the facilities on the train none existent (had to stop for a passenger who needed to use the toilet). The timetable not very strictly adhered to either. We were delayed by 40 mins. waiting at the Kalavryta train station when we could have spent more time in the beautiful town if we had known... Yet, a 4 star review for the nature...
Read moreA ten star activity in this area. Unfortunately only 3 times per day you can go up and down with the train to kalavrita, and remember that the last train is at 16.45 so this is absolutely a morning excursion. But the narrow gorge where the train passes is spectacular in any season. You will see waterfalls, tunnels, a nice village build around the train stop in zachlorou (amazing to walk around) it is a magical trip, you will think that it is artificial like a luna Park. It is a nice activity for. Children as well. I would recommend to take tickets in advance, above all if it is public...
