Museum of the Olive and Greek Olive Oil — Attraction in Municipality of Sparta

This is a wonderful museum where you can learn all about the history of olive-growing in Greece, as well as the uses and processing of olives (to eat, oil, and other products). Several short films in Greek with English subtitles. All information in both Greek and English makes understanding what you’re seeing easy.

The small working models downstairs are delightful and outside in the open air area you can see life-size examples of the olive pressing equipment over the years.

I could not stop seeing signs pointing to this place as I was travelling around the Peloponesse and honestly... It was worth the hype! Its kind of a niche museum but for those interested it takes you through the process and history of olives and olive oil production in Greece. It's pretty interesting and kinda fun to see considering you're not gonna find anything like this anywhere else around Sparta or the wider Peloponnesean area. Definetly worth a visit if you're in Sparta, especially considering there's not a lot else to do in...

Pretty awesome museum. One of the highlights of the town. Sadly. But you will get the know everything about olives and the oil. I loved the AC they had cos it was very hot that day and in the museum the temperature is low. Great! • Did you know why people are awarded with 🏆 cups? I didn’t till I visited this museum. It’s connected with ancient games (Olympic or so) and the winner gets cup full of the best olive oil = a lot of money in ancient times. • and many more other interesting stuff to find in...
