Fun and fairly challenging hike + bouldering. We did not make it all the way to the cave because my wife’s footwear was not ideal- we are here on our honeymoon, so the risk/reward trade-off wasn’t right for us. If I was here with some risk loving buddies then we no doubt would have made it to the end. Regardless, there are still some REALLY cool views once the bouldering begins, so it’s definitely worth a visit.
Recommend: 1-1.5L of water per person to be safe. Come before noon for shade during the more difficult bouldering section. Shoes with good grip and firm sole (my MTB shoes were perfect, but they have better grip than 99% of hiking boots). Go slow and try to only step on rocks that are partially underground- about 75% of the rocks are loose and some sections could lead to serious injury if you really mess up. 3 points of contact when going down the really steep/loose sections. Trail is not hard to follow, when in doubt look for man-made rock stacks (cairns).
Attached map: the trail was visible on the app I use for hiking (Workoutdoors). We parked at blue “P” symbol. It’s a small dirt lot, no problem to get there with ATV. Saw a car up there as well. The 4m steep dirt ascent to the lot is very rutted out, so be careful in car as you could bottom out. ATVs could easily drive past the dirt lot to where the bouldering starts (red “B”). Purple “O” is another nice little lookout, but you’ll honestly get better views from the actual trail. Other reviewers did a good job describing the way there, could have done it without the...
Read moreExcellent hike. Yes, bring decent shoes, but you should be fine. As you approach from the south you will find the hill masking the cave. Take a right until you can scale down. Look for the little stone towers to guide you and make some yourself to pay it forward. We found the cave experience very good and let me put it this way: had it been in Germany they would have blocked the path with a stainless steel fence, the Dutch would have forbidden it, but not made an effort to enforce that, the Chinese would have turned into a money generating theme, but the Greek just left it there as it has been for hundreds of years. Experience the hike as Archilochos must have done, including a few risky bits but you should be fine and just...
Read moreFollow the other Google reviews with directions and you will be able to fine the cave. Ultimately, you will have to climb down to the water, keep traversing, and then climb up to get to the cave. It’s been said before in other reviews, but do not wear flip flops. The entire way down and up is a scramble with lots of loose rocks and dirt. If you go at sunset, like us, give yourself enough time to get up before the sun goes down. Dont forget to take in all the gorgeous views along the entire way. Photos 2 and 3 shows the scrambles you have to climb down/ up, and photo 4 shows the trail you follow along the water. Lots of cairns along the way to help you...
