Archaeological Museum of Skyros — Attraction in Skyros Municipality

A wonderful small gem. Consisting of only three rooms, it's very easy to visit (there is even an elevation mechanism for disabled individuals) and requires very little time. Furthermore, the collection is concise and includes items ranging from the late Neolithic and early bronze age (3200-2300 BC), middle bronze age, late bronze age - Mycenean era (1700-1200 BC), the geometric period (900-700 BC), the archaic period (700-500 BC), the classical, the Hellenistic, and all the way up to the early Roman years. So samples of more than 3000 years of history are displayed in only two rooms. The 3rd room hosts a collection of traditional Skyrian household items and garments, reflecting the latest...

The Archaeological Museum of Skyros is located on Brooke Square in Skyros Chora (down the stairs at the Agia Triada Church). It consists of 3 rooms and a courtyard. One of the rooms is a representation of an old Skyrian house and what it looked like. The two other rooms and the courtyard are reserved for objects found in various places on the island. There are many tombstones, objects and sculptures that come from a cemetery at Magazia beach and many objects that have been found in the ancient city of Palamari. Πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα προσπάθεια ανάδειξης του πολιτισμού και της ιστορίας της Σκύρου. Στο μουσείο υπάρχουν εκθέματα που χρονολογούνται από την προϊστορική μέχρι τη ρωμαϊκή εποχή. Επίσης μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζει και η αναπαράσταση του παραδοσιακού Σκυριανού σπιτιού, μέσα στο οποίο υπάρχουν και οι παραδοσιακές φορεσιές τους. Ιδιαίτερη εντύπωση μας έκανε το παραδοσιακό νυφικό, το οποίο, όπως μας ενημέρωσε η υπάλληλος του μουσείου φορούν ακόμη και σήμερα στους παραδοσιακούς γάμους του νησιού. Είναι ένα μικρό μουσείο, γεγονός που δεν κούρασε καθόλου τα μικρά παιδιά της παρέας αλλά ταυτόχρονα αναδεικνύει με όμορφο τρόπο την ιστορία της Σκύρου. Μας άρεσαν πολύ τα παιχνίδια και το μπιμπερό, αλλά και το κουτάλι και το σφυρί. Η υπάλληλος ήταν πολύ ευγενική, με διάθεση για επεξηγήσεις σε μικρούς και μεγάλους.
