Byzantine Museum of Makrinitsa "Oxeia Episkepsis" — Attraction in Volos Municipality

This is a fairly new museum that opened in 2018 and it has a hugely important and valuable collection of Christian religious artifacts that were scattered and abandoned in various churches that were derelict all around the area.

The district of Magnesia were mount Pelion and the village of Macrynitsa is located, had closed ties with the west because of the port in the city of Volos. This close ties influenced the locals and that affected art as well so artists like painters where heavily influenced from the west painting techniques and that shows at the amazing and unique paintings that are so different to the traditional Byzantine technique.

În septembrie 2024 la 20 km de Volos am mers să văd muzeul de Cultură Bizantin din Makrinitsa, întrun sat tradiţional de munte în Pelion. Muzeul este deschis de la 10-18 şi intrarea costă 2€ de persoană, unde poţi vedea o colecție de lucrări post-bizantine şi se află în piaţa centrală a satului. În afară de frumuseţile din muzeu, interesante sunt uliţele satului care sunt din piatră, casele şi conacele în stil vechi şi multe fântâni, unele din marmură şi altele din piatră. Κάποια από τα εκθέματα είναι σπουδαία για όσους ενδιαφέρονται για αυτά. Ωστόσο, ο φωτισμός τους με απλά spots είναι τόσο λάθος και ενοχλητικός που σχεδόν καμία από τις αγιογραφίες δεν είναι δυνατόν να την παρατηρήσεις από οποιαδήποτε απόσταση λόγω της έντονης γυαλάδας. Το επισημάναμε στην κυρία που χειρίζεται το κατάστημα του ορόφου και υποστήριξε οτι "εκείνοι που έκαναν την μελέτη ξέρουν" (!!!). Το γράψαμε και στο βιβλίο επισκεπτών. Πιο ευήκοα ώτα είχε πάντως ο νεαρός στην υποδοχή της έκθεσης που υποσχέθηκε οτι θα το μεταφέρει στους υπεύθυνους. Ας κάμουν ό,τι τους φωτίσει ο Μητροπολίτης...
