Overall we had a very bad experience here.

We were in Makrinitsa for about a week and ate here on several occasions. Service is really slow. I can understand that not everyone knows English, but one waiter just stated “no, no, no, no,...” if you even spoke one word of English to him. (And no, it’s not the greek word for “yes” in this case).

One night we were eating with our family. One person got its plate half an hour before some other dishes came. Then again half an hour before the rest came. Some stuff never came and we had to triple check our bill to scratch everything off that we didn’t have. Food is not good, eventhough I can’t say it’s really bad either. Greek salad is as expected, the meat is sometimes cold or uncooked. But potatoes with cheese are good. I only got about 10 small fries with my souvlakis though.

They have a machine for accepting creditcards, but they don’t want to use it. After insisting over and over that we only have creditcard, only then they will go and get it (after 10 min of sighing from the waiter and asking for cash).

Positive note: view is great...

A) As a diabetic, I asked whether i could exchange the side of my dish which was potatoes for lettuce. They said it would be no problem but when the dish came, it was full of potatoes, there was no lettuce and they told me they never had any lettuce (next to me, people were eating ceasar's salad).

B) I asked for an ashtray which never came, even though they told me they would bring me one, so I was forced to "steal" one from another table. While I was rolling a cigarrete, the waiter came and took the ashtray without asking. Visitors who were sitting nearby, gave me their own in shock from his behavior and apologised on his behalf.

C) They try not to give you a receipt and will make a fuss if you want to pay with a credit card. They will do their best to hide their profits.

D) The waiter attitude is atrocious. They are rude and pay you no mind. They see you as a walking wallet.

All in all, the view is gorgeous and the food is acceptable but owners such as these should see their business plummet. Boycotting is the only way for them to...

We waited for 30 minutes for someone to give us a menu, even though I waived at waiters and I was acknowledged multiple times.

After 20 minutes they gave us 1 menu (not 2, even though we were 2 people)and then they completelly ignored us. We waited for 10 more minutes and left.

They served people that came after us (at least 2 other tables) and the restaurant was half empty, yet they couldn't give us even a table cloth for 30 minutes.

We do not know if the problem was that we initially said we only want something to drink or tha fact that we had a small baby with us but it is sure our money was not...

It is a nice historical tavern which, apart from tasteful dishes, serves a variety of refreshments and coffee. The prices are affordable, considering the high tourist traffic of Makrinitsa and the wonderful panoramic view of Volos and the Pagasitikos Gulf that you can enjoy while sitting there. A view that resembles a wonderful live painting that we would all like to have in our living room or in one of our rooms. A huge advantage of the place is the wonderful historic village square where the tavern tables are under the generous shade of century-old trees that offer refreshing coolness. It is definitely worth a visit, either at noon or in the afternoon. The sunset from the spot is simply breathtaking ! Note : I have visited this tavern hundreds of times over the last 30 years. I sincerely cannot understand so many bad reviews.

The view was spectacular, but unfortunately it's a very touristy place, therefore there were a lot of people waiting for coffee. We managed to find a table but due to the long wait we had to leave before even ordering anything. It would be much better if there were more waiters to help the customers. Despite that, the one coffee shop manager that we managed to talk to, seemed kind but we couldn't order from him we had to wait for the waiter.
