Hippocrates Square, often considered the beating heart of the Old Town of Rhodes. Named after the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates, who is often referred to as the "Father of Medicine," this bustling square serves as a central meeting point and is an absolute must-see during your exploration of the island. **Architectural Highlights** As you look around, you'll notice a fascinating mix of architectural styles. From medieval to Ottoman and even Italian influences, the buildings surrounding the square are a testament to the diverse history of Rhodes. One of the focal points is the Castellania, an elegant building that once served as a library and now hosts shops and cafes. **Fountain of the Square** At the center of the square is a charming fountain, often adorned with flower pots. Historically, fountains served both aesthetic and practical purposes in public spaces, and this one is no exception. It adds an atmospheric touch to the area and serves as a popular meeting spot. **Shopping and Dining** Hippocrates Square is surrounded by numerous shops offering everything from local handicrafts to international brands. Whether you're looking for traditional Greek souvenirs or contemporary fashion, you're sure to find something intriguing. As for dining, the square is ringed with cafes and tavernas where you can sample local and international cuisine. It's a great place to relax with a coffee or enjoy a traditional Greek meal, often accompanied by live music in the evenings. **Local Events and Atmosphere** Depending on the time of year, Hippocrates Square often serves as a venue for various events, including art exhibitions, live performances, and holiday celebrations. The square is always buzzing with activity, and the atmosphere is one of vitality and engagement, making it a microcosm of Rhodes' diverse and lively culture. **Visitor Tips** While the square is always open, shops and restaurants have their own operating hours. It's particularly enchanting in the evening when the area is lit up, creating a magical atmosphere perfect for an evening stroll or dinner. **Nearby Attractions** Hippocrates Square serves as an excellent starting point for visiting other landmarks in the Old Town, such as the Palace of the Grand Master, the Archaeological Museum, and the Street of the Knights, all of which are within

Really enjoyed our meal here last night. I did book in advance, but because there were a few tables free, I didn't mention anything when we were shown to a table on the top of several floors. The view was lovely looking down to the old city and across the city wall to the port. The service was fantastic and the food and wine followed suit. Midway, the manager approached and asked if I'd pre-booked. I said I had and apologised for not saying anything upon arrival. He said this was no issue but wanted to let me know he'd reserved us a front line table on the floor below. This view would have been even more incredible, but it didn't detract in any way from the fantastic experience we had dining here. I strongly recommend a visit, and I think this will be an absolute must to pre-book in busier periods.

Beautiful square and fountain in the Old Town of Rhodes. There are many shops, restaurants and gelateria around the square. Be aware that you will pay a premium in the restaurants compared the back streets, but you're paying for the location and to watch the hustle and bustle of Rhodes Old Town while you enjoy your food or drink. One small detail worth watching if you are sitting there is the pigeons - they are hilarious as they compete to drink from the fountain.

Nice place to visit for the day lots and lots of shops to look in ranging from the usual supermarket type to jewelry stores...handmade gifts pottery and many more. The only slight downside is the restaurant touts trying to get you into their businesses when you pass but that's what's expected. Nice places to eat and the shade under the trees slightly back from here was lovely on a hot summer Day.
