Read moreThe Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built on the southern banks of Yamuna in Agra. It is built from ivory white marble procured from Makrana in Rajasthan. In Hindi, Taj Mahal means "Crown among Palaces". Commissioned in 1632 AD by Shah Jahan, the Mughal ruler, construction was completed in entirety by 1653 AD. It is estimated that about 20000 artisans under the court architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri were employed during construction. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 & among the 7 wonders of the world. It houses the tombs of both Shah Jahan & his favorite queen Mumtaz Mahal, in whose memory it was built. While taking pictures & selfies is natural, do spend lot of time on appreciating the architecture & engineering...
