Narmada Kund — Attraction in Amarkantak

Narmada Kund i.e. the originating point of the holy river Narmada is situated in the hilly town of Amarkantak on the Maikal range of hills within Madhya Pradesh at an altitude of 3438 ft. According to Hindu mythology Narmada is one of the sacred rivers of India. After the river Ganges this river is considered as Goddess mother. Pilgrims take bath in its holy water to wash away their sins. The complex of Narmada Kunda ( originating point) houses the kund (a small tank) and two temples viz: Narmada Udgam Temple and Narmada Mai Temple. The construction of the temple is simple with white walls reminding the peaceful atmosphere. Most of the Indian rivers are flowing towards east but only two rivers are flowing towards west.
