Kapila Theertham is a hidden gem tucked at the foothills of the Tirumala hills, where nature and spirituality meet in harmony. Unlike the more crowded Venkateswara Temple atop Tirumala, this Shiva temple offers a quiet, refreshing experience.

The main deity here is Lord Shiva (Kapileswara Swamy), and the temple is believed to be the only Shiva temple in Tirupati, making it sacred for devotees of both Shaivism and Vaishnavism. The atmosphere feels ancient, calm, and full of stories.

What I Loved:

🛕 Peaceful Vibes: The temple complex is not too crowded, especially on weekdays, so you can actually sit and meditate.

🌊 Waterfall + Theertham: There’s a natural waterfall that flows during monsoon season, creating a magical aura. The sacred water tank (theertham) in front of the temple adds to the charm.

🌳 Nature + Architecture: With its rock-carved steps, tall gopuram, and backdrop of lush green hills, it feels like walking into a mythical land.

🧘‍♂️ Good for Morning Visit: Best time to go is early morning – cool breeze, less crowd, and the sound of birds and water. What Could Be Better:

🚯 Cleanliness: Some areas around the temple and tank need better maintenance (especially during off-seasons).

🚌 Parking + Access: Slightly confusing access if you're new. Better signboards and a proper waiting area would help.

Tips: Visit during Karthika Masam or Shivaratri if you want to witness major celebrations.

Bring water and wear light cottons, especially if visiting in summer. Avoid weekends if you're looking for a quiet time.

Final Thought: If you’re in Tirupati and want a break from the long queues of Tirumala, Kapila Theertham offers a quiet, spiritual retreat. It’s not just a temple visit – it’s a peaceful nature walk with a...

The sight of the Kapila Teertham Waterfalls is nothing short of divine. The cascading water, gleaming under the sunlight, is a visual spectacle that resonates with the spirit of devotion. Many believe that the water holds purifying properties, making it a place of spiritual rejuvenation.

A Perfect Blend of Natural Beauty & Divine Serenity

Visited Kapila Theertham while staying in Tirupati and it was a deeply serene and spiritually uplifting experience. About 3–4 km from the city center, this is Tirupati’s only Shiva temple, and it’s nestled almost directly under a majestic waterfall that cascades into a temple tank—truly a rare sight .

The sacred Kapileshwara Swamy idol is believed to be self-manifested and installed by Kapila Muni, making the temple historically and mythologically significant. A grand Nandi statue greets you at the entrance, and the temple complex also includes several sub-shrines for deities like Vinayaka, Subramanya, Kamakshi, and Krishna .

The waterfall is the highlight—especially during monsoon and early winter (June to December), when the flow is powerful yet serene. The roar of water, lush greenery, and cool pond make for a meditative, cleansing atmosphere. Devotees often take a holy dip here, believed to absolve sins and bring blessings .

The temple is managed by TTD, well-maintained, and operational from early morning until evening. Entry is free, and you can participate in sevas like Abhishekam, Archana, and Ekantha Seva for a nominal fee. Facilities include clean restrooms, changing rooms, and a cloak area for footwear—making it comfortable for pilgrims .

The best times to visit are early morning (6–8 AM) or late afternoon (4–6 PM) for pleasant weather, and beautiful lighting for photographs. If you’re there during major festivals like Brahmotsavam, Maha Shivaratri, or Kartika Purnima, expect vibrant rituals and a lively devotional...

Though this temple's significance has diminished due to the hugely popular neighboring Temples in Tirumala and Tiruchanoor, it received very good patronage from the Kings of Vijayanagara in the 13th thru 16th centuries, especially Saluva Narasimha Deva Raya, and the eternally famous Sri Krishna Deva Raya, and some of the later rulers like Venkatapathi Raya, and Aliya Ramaraya, Sri Krishna Deva Raya's Son-in-law.[citation needed]During 'Kartika' month on the occasion of its "mukkoti" on the 'Purnima' (full moon) day, all the teerthas situated in the three world's merge into this Kapila Teertham at noon for ten 'Ghatikas'(one ghatika is equivalent to 24 minutes).[1] It is believed that persons bathing in it at that auspicious time will attain salvation from the cycle of birth and death ('Brahmaloka').[citation needed] Moreover, those who have never offered Pindam (thidhi or thadhhina) to their departed ancestor souls can do it here and wash off your sins for non performance of it in past.[citation needed] Festivals "Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams-Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple".
