Hey everyone! We just visited Begur Fort, and wanted to share a quick update. On the way, we were excited and thought it might be a large, historical site. But to be honest, there isn’t much to see. It’s mostly just an open ground with a small section of an arch remaining from the original fort structure. It’s not well-maintained and doesn’t give off the vibe of a significant historical place. Inside the arch, it seems like the space is used for storage or something else unrelated definitely not curated or preserved. There’s also a small temple next to it, which you might find mildly interesting, but overall, I wouldn’t recommend this as a hangout spot or a must visit. You can stop by quickly if you’re in the area and just want to see the arch that's left That’s all from here ( Refer Images)

What must've once been a majestic fort has now been reduced to a vast play ground. The only surviving structures are the temple , a stone gateway and a well which has gone dry for the 1st time ever this year. The stone gateway adorns one of Bangalore's oldest inscriptions which has worn-out and is barely visible, the translation can be found in the pics. The stone wall are reduced to mud mounds but stones which might have been a part of the fort walls are scattered all around the vicinity. Only a small section of the wall remains, probably because of the banyan tree protecting it

Begur Fort is located along the Begur Lake in Akshay Nagar near Hosur Road. Only a temple and a pillar seem intact. Otherwise nothing is left. Temple is called Panchlingeswara Temple or Nagnatheswara Temple. Said to be thousand years old Chola period fort but any board of ASI was not seen. Said to be a small Cantonment like set up. Newspaper reports of some time ago mentioned that name of Bengaluru was first mentioned here in an inscription. However nothing could be confirmed. Pathetic scene of neglect of heritage.

Begur Fort is one of the oldest historical landmarks in Bengaluru, home to the ancient Pancha Linga Nageswara Temple with Chola-era inscriptions that shed light on the city’s early history. The temple itself is serene and spiritually significant, making it worth a short visit if you’re interested in heritage sites. The fort area, though modest, can also serve as a quiet escape with grassy patches that are nice for a picnic or photography.

That said, the fort itself is in poor condition. The mud walls are crumbling, there’s little to no maintenance, and urbanization has surrounded the site, taking away the feel of an ancient stronghold. Don’t expect large stone ramparts or a grand fort experience—this is more of a small temple complex enclosed in an old mud wall. There are also no amenities or visitor information provided, which can make it less engaging for casual tourists.

Overall, Begur Fort is more suited for history buffs, locals, or photographers than for general sightseeing. It’s best to visit with realistic expectations, appreciate the temple’s history, and perhaps combine it with a picnic or...

The word ‘Fort’ is very msleading , because there is only a crude stone doorway that remains . The rest of the fort , which was of mud , has vanished leaving only a wasteland . The place looks like a big rural playground . There are two small , simple shrines which get painted once a while , but are rarely seen open . The villagers point to a ruined well and claim there”s a secret tunnel inside it to somewhere ! If you show interest , they also throw in a couple of spooky tales for your entertainment ! The one single feature of interest here , for history enthusiasts , is a small 9th Century inscription recording the voluntary death of a Chieftain”s daughter . It can be seen on the stone frame of the doorway . A word to people planning to visit : go without any expectations . And plenty of water . Sit and enjoy the...

Begur fort -Historical place, about 2 acre campus, with boundary of collected soil(instead of cemented boundary). But outside soil boundary at 200 metre distance, high rise flats present. Small temple of Shiva inside -maintained by a priest. Inside campus-grass ,small wild plants. No proper seating place , except ground. Kindly maintain it properly and put charge of 5/- to 10/- from each visitor for maintenance purpose-it will be real respect to this historical place, . Old fort remaining -about 6 to 7 metre long and 2 metre height forte remaining. Peaceful environment. For history enthusiasts -a small 9th Century inscription recording the voluntary death of a Chieftain”s daughter -can be seen on the stone frame of the doorway . At least put signboard on road for tourist direction...
