Visiting Amrutavarshini Vav in Ahmedabad was a mixed experience, combining awe for its historical significance with disappointment at its neglected state. This unique L-shaped stepwell is situated in one of the busiest areas of Ahmedabad, yet finding it was a challenge. There was no clear information online or on-site about whether it was open to visitors, and I had to rely on roadside vendors to locate the entrance.
Upon entering, I was struck by the architecture. The stepwell, though modest in size compared to other famous stepwells in Gujarat, showcases intricate craftsmanship typical of such heritage structures. Its L-shaped design is a rare feature and adds to its charm. However, my excitement quickly turned to dismay as I observed the condition of the site. There was no water in the well, and the main well area was filled with debris.
The lack of maintenance was glaring. While the structure still retains a certain aesthetic appeal, it is evident that no significant upkeep has been undertaken in recent times. The absence of any informational plaques or boards about the history of the Vav was another disappointment. A heritage site of this caliber deserves proper preservation and efforts to educate visitors about its past.

P.S. Try the famous Panchkuva fulvadi nearby if you are a fan and can discount street-food...
