Facilities at Jawala Ji Temple

Jawala Ji Temple, located in the scenic Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, India, is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites dedicated to Goddess Jawala Ji, a form of Goddess Durga. This temple is unique for its natural flames that burn in the sanctum, considered to be a manifestation of the goddess's divine presence. Apart from its religious significance, the temple offers several facilities for the convenience of devotees and visitors. Here, we explore the major facilities available at the temple complex.

Accommodation Facilities

The Jawala Ji Temple offers a range of accommodation options for pilgrims and tourists. There are guesthouses, dharamshalas (religious guesthouses), and private hotels in the vicinity of the temple. These accommodations are generally affordable and provide basic amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay for visitors. For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, the dharamshalas provide simple, no-frills rooms with the essential facilities like bedding, water, and food.

Additionally, the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) runs a few hotels and guesthouses nearby, offering better amenities and services for a slightly higher cost. Some of these establishments also offer the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil natural surroundings while staying close to the temple complex.

Food and Dining

The Jawala Ji Temple offers food facilities for pilgrims in the form of langar (community kitchen) where free meals are served to visitors. The langar operates under the guidance of temple authorities and is open to everyone, irrespective of their background. The meals typically consist of simple vegetarian food, including dal, rice, roti, and vegetables.

For those who prefer to dine outside the temple premises, there are several small eateries and restaurants in the nearby market. These establishments serve a variety of North Indian and Himachali dishes, ensuring that visitors have access to a wide range of culinary options.

Prasad and Offerings

Devotees visiting the temple are encouraged to offer prasad (sacred offerings) to the deity. Common offerings include sweets, fruits, and flowers. The temple complex has dedicated areas where prasad is distributed. The temple also sells prasad at small counters, and pilgrims can purchase it as a token of their visit. Additionally, devotees can buy souvenirs, religious books, and images of the goddess from the shops located within the temple premises.

Cleanliness and Sanitation

The temple authorities ensure that the temple complex remains clean and well-maintained. There are public restrooms and washrooms available for visitors, providing basic facilities for hygiene. The temple premises are regularly cleaned, and waste management systems are in place to ensure that the area remains pristine. However, it is advisable for visitors to carry their own toiletries as a backup.

Accessibility and Transportation

Jawala Ji Temple is easily accessible by road, and transportation is available for visitors from major cities and towns in Himachal Pradesh, such as Dharamshala, Kangra, and Palampur. The temple is well-connected to these towns via taxis, buses, and private vehicles. For those coming by train, the nearest railway station is Kangra, located approximately 30 kilometers away, from where local buses or taxis can be hired to reach the temple.

For visitors coming by air, the nearest airport is Gaggal Airport in Kangra, which is about 40 kilometers from the temple. From the airport, taxis or buses can be arranged to take visitors to the temple.

Medical Facilities

The temple complex provides basic medical facilities, including first aid services, to cater to the needs of pilgrims.

Security and Safety

To ensure the safety of all visitors, the Jawala Ji Temple has a team of security personnel who are present to monitor the premises and...

Jwala Devi is one of the major 'Shakti Peethas' of India. Jwala Devi Temple is located at a distance of 34 kms in south of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh. Even from Dharamshala, it lies at a stretch of 56 kms and moreover, it is easily accessible by the regular buses from both the places. For a convenient journey, one can opt for private taxis that are available throughout the state. The temple is dedicated to Jwala Devi (form of goddess), who is the presiding in the form of flames. Due to this fact, the goddess is also referred as the 'Flaming Goddess'.

Positioned besides a cliff, Jwalamukhi Mandir is built on a wooden platform in the Indo-Sikh style of architecture. The structural design of the temple is simple, but the religious aura makes it undoubtedly divine. The dome and spire of this temple are covered with Gold. The main door of the shrine is plated with silver. In front of the main shrine, there is a huge brass bell that was presented by the King of Nepal.

Being an important pilgrimage of the Hindus, devotees come to this temple in large numbers. During the days of Navaratri, the temple is thronged by countless number of devotees. Colorful fairs are also organized for the period of Navaratri in March-April and Sep-October. Earlier, this temple was administered by the descendants of Raja. After Independence, this temple was declared as the site of Cultural Heritage and that time onwards, it is under the management of the Government. There are not less than 102 priests to look after the sermons of the temple and even these priests are paid by...
