Moti Doongri means pearl hill, because the hill indeed resembles a pearl drop. Visitors go there to pay homage at the famous Ganesh temple, the most auspicious and important religious temple in Jaipur. The Ganesh temple was built by Seth Jai Ram Paliwal, sometime in the early 18th century.

The temple is open from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and remains closed from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly.

A sacred haven in the heart of Jaipur In the heart of Jaipur's vibrant cityscape, where ancient tales and modern marvels intertwine, lies the Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple – a sanctuary that beckons devotees and wanderers alike to bask in its sacred aura. Situated a mere 6 kilometres from the Jaipur Junction Railway Station, this temple stands at the foot of the majestic Moti Dungri Palace and gets its name from the palace, which translates to Pearl (Moti) Hill (Dungri).

Constructed in 1761 by the visionary Seth Jai Ram Paliwal, the Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple is steeped in a legend as captivating as the structure itself. As the story goes, the King of Mewar was returning from a long journey, carrying Lord Ganesh's colossal idol upon a bullock cart. It is believed that the king was determined to consecrate the temple at the very spot where the bullock cart would take its first halt.

And so, at the foot of the Moti Dungri hills, the present-day temple found its eternal home, a living embodiment of the divine will that guided the king's path.

Let's take a tour inside As you enter the sacred grounds of Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple, a world of divine splendour unfurls, where every stone whispers tales of age-old traditions.

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the temple's sanctum sanctorum is crowned by three resplendent domes. At its heart rests the colossal idol of Lord Ganesha. The idol's sitting posture, with its trunk gracefully turned to the left, symbolises auspiciousness that has withstood the test of time. Not to mention, its vermillion-covered form radiates an ethereal glow.

Besides the revered deity stands a grand statute of Mushika, a mouse believed to be Lord Ganesh's divine vehicle. The temple is a canvas of exquisite artistry, with intricate carvings and lattice work adorning every surface, each etching a mythological narrative passed down through generations.

A sacred abode of fairs and festivities The Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple is Jaipur's festive energy and cultural vibrancy hub. During significant festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi (Lord Ganesha's birthday), Krishna Janmashtami (Lord Krishna's birthday), Annakut (A festival honouring Lord Krishna), and Paush Bada (a local festival celebrated on the tenth month of the year), the temple comes alive with joyous celebrations. During these occasions, thousands of devotees gather to participate in the preparations and pay their respects to Lord Ganesha.

For the locals of Jaipur, this temple holds immense significance. Extending the first invitation for any auspicious occasion to the Lord Ganesha of this temple is a tradition. Newlywed couples also make it a point to visit and seek blessings from the deity on their first day of married life, following age-old customs.

The temple's grandeur and rich heritage also attract scholars and architects, who come to observe the intricate architecture and cultural heritage it represents. Every Wednesday, the temple premises transform into a lively fair, offering a unique opportunity to experience the vibrant spirit of Jaipur's cultural identity amidst bustling crowds and...

Lord Ganesha holds a special place, not just in Hindu mythology but also in the heart of every devotee. Every religious function or festival followed by the Hindus starts by offering prayers to Lord Ganesha. According to religious scriptures, he is the God worshipped at the start of any auspicious beginning. Several famous temples across the country pay homage to Lord Ganesha and Jaipur holds the claim to fame of having once such temple in the city.

Moti Doongri temple is one of the most famous and revered temples of Jaipur which sees thousands of devotees at its steps. Devotees visit this temple at every important occasion of their life, be it buying their first car, or after getting married or before applying for a visa. The temple holds a very important place in the hearts of the people of the city.

Legend has it that way back in the 17th century when the King of Mewar was returning home, he was carrying an idol of Lord Ganesha with him on a bullock cart. He declared that wherever the bullock cart first stopped, he would build a temple for the lord.

The cart stopped at the foothill of Moti Doongri which became the site for the temple. Construction of the temple was entrusted to Seth Jairam Paliwal and Mahant Shiv Narain who built this temple in four years and it was completed in 1761.

As they say, there is never the best time to visit a temple since one can go there whenever one wishes to offer prayers. Moti Doongri temple is thronged by devotees every day of the week but Wednesday is one of the busiest days for the temple. Lord Ganesha is said to be the god of the planet Mercury and Wednesday is the day for Mercury.

A small fair is set outside the temple on this day every week where hawkers selling toys, sweets, and other knick-knacks cover the road leading up to the temple. The entry of vehicles to the gate of the temple is restricted on this day and barricades are set at a distance from the temple premises.

On other days of the week, Darshan takes place seven times during the day. Aartis, bhajans, and kirtans are sung during the darshan and devotees pay homage to Lord Ganesha when the curtains are pulled aside for him to give an appearance.

A large number of devotees also visit the temple from the city and other neighboring cities on the occasion of festivals like Ganesha Chaturthi, Annkuta, Janmashtami, and Paush Bada. During these festivals, the road leading up to the temple is...
