Jaipur- The Pink City, and the capital of Rajasthan, has always been associated with royal families who have made significant contributions to the state. The presence of beautiful palaces, forts, and temples demonstrates their link to this must-see destination in India. Along with decorating Jaipur with exquisite palaces and forts, the Maharajas began to build a few temples that turned out to be magnificent works of art. Jaipur's silhouette began to appear respectable with temples such as Shila Devi, Galta Ji, Pataleshwar, and Govind Devji. Despite its growth, this city has managed to strike a balance between ancient and modern times. Shila Devi temple is a famous tourist destination of Jaipur and a temple dedicated to the Goddess Durga. This temple stands within Amer Fort. In 1604, Maharaja Man Singh brought the Goddess Shila Mata's statue from Jessore, "Bangladesh." It is believed that the Goddess appeared in the Maharaja's dream and instructed him to retrieve her statue, which was floating in the sea near Jessore (now in Bangladesh), and place it in a temple. Raja Man Singh found the idol from the water in the form of a Shila (Slab), and when it was cleaned and washed, the current idol appeared, hence the name Shila Mata. Interestingly, the temple took ten years to build. During the nine-day Navratri celebration, devotees offer special prayers at the Shila Devi temple. Thousands of people gather from Jaipur and the neighbouring areas to make offerings to Shila Devi. The entire area is illuminated with beautiful lights around Navratri. In the 17th century, a high astrologer told Maharaja Man Singh that if he worshipped this goddess, he would never fail in any fight. So, following that, Maharaja Man Singh fought with West Bengal's monarch and married his lovely daughter. The then-ruler of Bengal had sent Maharaja Man Singh this black statue of "Kali Maa" as a gift. According to certain historians, Maharaja Man Singh found this black stone in the sea that was floating. When the Maharaja held this unexpected sight, he chose to carve it into a stone and set it in his royal area as "Kaali Maa."

The Shila mata (Stone Goddess) temple at Amber fort (Jaipur, Rajasthan) is dedicated to the Goddess Durga. Thousands of people from Jaipur and surrounding areas come here to pay offerings to Shila mata. Although Jaipur is known for its Murtikars (idol carvers), this particular idol was not made in Jaipur, but came to Jaipur from far away Bengal. It is believed that Maharaja Mansingh brought the statue of the Goddess Shila mata from Jessore (now in Bangladesh) in 1604. Legends say that Maharaja Mansingh received a defeat at the hands of king Kedar. Humiliated and depressed, the Maharaja worshipped goddess Durga to bless him. Goddess appeared in his dreams and asked him to recover her statue lying under sea near Jessore (now in Bangladesh) and install it in a temple. The idol was recovered from the sea in the form of a shila (slab) and brought to Amber, when cleaned and washed, the present idol appeared. This is why the goddess is named as Shila mata. It took 10 long years to build the temple. The temple is made out of white marble and the idol is black in colour. An idol of Lord Ganesha is carved here out of a single piece of coral. Extremely beautiful is the whole conception of the temple. Adherence to the principles of vastu has made it as ideal work of architecture. The fort and the temple are on a hill and are cozily nestled in the lap of Mother Nature. The surrounding hills of Amber reverberate when special pooja is offered and drums are beaten. शिला देवी मंदिर भारत के राजस्थान राज्य के जयपुर नगर में आमेर महल में स्थित एक मंदिर है। इसकी स्थापना यहां सवाई मानसिंह द्वितीय द्वारा की गयी थी। स्थानीय लोगों से मिली सूचनानुसार शिला देवी जयपुर के कछवाहा राजपूत राजाओं की कुल देवी रही हैं। इस मंदिर में लक्खी मेला लगता है जो काफ़ी प्रसिद्ध है। इस मेले में नवरात्र में यहां भक्तों की भारी भीड़ माता के दर्शनों के लिए आती है। शिला देवी की मूर्ति के पास में भगवान गणेश और मीणाओं की कुलदेवी हिंगला की मूर्तियाँ भी स्थापित हैं। कहते हैं कि यहां पहले मीणाओं का राज हुआ करता था। नवरात्रों में यहाँ दो मेले लगते हैं एवं देवी को प्रसन्न करने के लिए पशु बलि दी जाती है। आमेर दुर्ग के महल में जलेब चौक है जिसके दक्षिणी भाग में शिला माता का ऐतिहासिक मंदिर स्थित है। ये शिला माता राजपरिवार की कुल देवी भी मानी जाती हैं। यह मंदिर जलेब चौक से दूसरे उच्च स्तर पर मौजूद है अतः यहां से कुछ सीढ़ियाँ चढ़ कर मंदिर तक पहुंचना होता है। ये शिला देवी मूलतः अम्बा माता का ही रूप हैं एवं कहा जाता है कि आमेर या आंबेर का नाम इन्हीं अम्बा माता के नाम पर ही अम्बेर पड़ा था जो कालान्तर में आम्बेर या आमेर हो गया। माता की प्रतिमा एक शिला पर उत्कीर्ण होने के कारण इसे शिला देवी कहा जाता है।

वर्तमान में मंदिर सम्पूर्ण रूप से संगमरमर के पत्थरों द्वारा बना हुआ है, जो महाराज सवाई मानसिंह द्वितीय ने १९०६ में करवाया था। मूल रूप में यह चूने का बना हुआ था। यहाँ प्रतिदिन भोग लगने के बाद ही मन्दिर के दरवाजे खुलते हैं तथा यहाँ विशेष रूप से गुजियाँ व नारियल का प्रसाद चढ़ाया जाता है।  इस मूर्ति के ऊपरी भाग में बाएं से दाएं तक अपने वाहनों पर आरूढ़ भगवान गणेश, ब्रह्मा, शिव, विष्णु एवं कार्तिकेय की सुन्दर छोटे आकार की मूर्तियां बनी हैं। शिलादेवी की दाहिनी भुजाओं में खड्ग, चक्र, त्रिशूल, तीर तथा बाईं भुजाओं में ढाल, अभयमुद्रा, मुण्ड और धनुष उत्कीर्ण हैं।

पहले यहां माता की मूर्ति पूर्व की ओर मुख किये हुए थी। जयपुर शहर की स्थापना किए जाने पर इसके निर्माण में कार्यों में अनेक विघ्न उत्पन्न होने लगे। तब राजा जयसिंह ने कई बड़े पण्डितों से विचार विमर्श कर उनकी सलाह अनुसार मूर्ति को उत्तराभिमुख प्रतिष्ठित करवा दिया, जिससे जयपुर के निर्माण में कोई अन्य विघ्न उपस्थित न हो, क्योंकि मूर्ति की दृष्टि तिरछी पढ़ रही थी। तब इस मूर्ति को वर्तमान गर्भगृह में प्रतिष्ठित करवाया गया है, जो उत्तराभिमुखी है। यह मूर्ति काले पत्थर की बनी है और एक शिलाखण्ड पर बनी हुई है। शिला देवी की यह मूर्ति महिषासुर मर्दिनी के रूप में बनी हुई है। सदैव वस्त्रों और लाल गुलाब के फूलों से ढंकी मूर्ति का केवल मुहँ व हाथ ही दिखाई देते है। मूर्ति में देवी महिषासुर को एक पैर से दबाकर दाहिनें हाथ के त्रिशूल से मार रही है। इसलिए देवी की गर्दन दाहिनी ओर झुकी हुई है। यह मूर्ति चमत्कारी मानी जाती है। शिला देवी की बायीं ओर कछवाहा राजाओं की कुलदेवी अष्टधातु की हिंगलाज माता की मूर्ति भी बनी हुई है। मान्यता अनुसार हिंगलाज माता की मूर्ति पहले राज कर रहे मीणाओं द्वारा बलूचिस्तान के हिंगलाज भवानी शक्तिपीठ मन्दिर से लायी गई है।

मंदिर के प्रवेशद्वार पर चाँदी का पत्र मढ़ा हुआ है जिस दस महाविद्याओं, नवदुर्गा की आकृतियाँ अंकित हैं। मन्दिर का मुख्य द्वार चांदी का बना हुआ है और उस पर नवदुर्गा, शैलपुत्री, ब्रह्मचारिणी, चन्द्रघण्टा, कूष्माण्डा, स्कन्दमाता, कात्यायनी, कालरात्रि, महागौरी एवं सिद्धिदात्री की प्रतिमाएँ उकेरी हुई हैं। दस महाविद्याओं के रूप में यहां काली, तारा, षोडशी, भुवनेश्वरी, छिन्नमस्ता, त्रिपुरभैरवी, धूमावती, बगलामुखी, श्रीमातंगी और कमला देवी को दर्शाया गया है। द्चार के ऊपर लाल पत्थर की भगवान गणेश की मूर्ति प्रतिष्ठित है। मुख्यद्वार के सामने झरोखे है जिसके अंदर चांदी का नगाड़ा रखा हुआ है। यह नगाड़ा प्रातः एवं सायंकाल आरती के समय बजाया जाता है। मन्दिर की तरफ प्रवेश करते ही दाईं ओर कलाकार धीरेन्द्र घोष द्वारा महाकाली और महालक्ष्मी की सुन्दर चित्रकारी की हुई है। मंदिर के कुछ भाग एवं स्तम्भों में बंगाली वास्तु शैली...
