Flagstaff Tower is a one-room, castellated tower, built around 1828 as a signal tower, located in Kamla Nehru Ridge near the present-day North Campus of Delhi University in Delhi, India.

The tower was built by the British East India Company to communicate with other signal towers in the area. It was also used as a refuge during the 1857 Indian Rebellion. The tower is made of red sandstone and has a square base. It is topped with a crenellated parapet and a flagpole.

The tower is a popular tourist destination and offers panoramic views of the city. It is also a popular spot for bird watching.

Here are some pros and cons of visiting Flagstaff Tower:

Pros:

The tower is a well-maintained historical site. The views from the top of the tower are stunning. The tower is a popular spot for bird watching.

Cons:

The tower is relatively small and may not be of interest to everyone. There is no admission fee, but there is a small donation box at the entrance. The tower can be crowded on weekends.

Overall, I would recommend visiting Flagstaff Tower if you are interested in learning about Delhi's history or if you enjoy panoramic views. The tower is a small but significant historical site, and it is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Here are some tips for visiting Flagstaff Tower:

The tower is open from 9am to 5pm, seven days a week. There is no admission fee. The tower is located on the Kamla Nehru Ridge, near the North Campus of Delhi University. The tower can be crowded on weekends, so it is best to visit during the week if possible.

Flagstaff Tower is a one-room, castellated tower, built around 1828 as asignal tower. It is located in Kamla Nehru Ridge near the North Campus ofDelhi University in Delhi. It was here that many Europeans and their families sheltered on May 11, 1857, during theSiege of Delhi by the rebels at the beginning of the Indian rebellion of that year, waiting for help to arrive from nearby Meerut. Built by the British Indian Army, the building was part of the British cantonment and was used as a signal tower. Before forestation started in 1910, the area where the tower was built was the highest point on the ridge and was mostly barren, covered with low-lying shrub. Today it is a memorial and "protected monument" underArchaeological Survey of India.

History Flagstaff Tower played an important role during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when Delhi was captured by the rebellious East India Company forces. On the morning of 11 May 1857, when the sepoys started hunting for and killing European personnel and Christian Indians in the Cantonment, Civil Linesand the walled city of Delhi, the survivors started fleeing towards the Tower.

A month later the Company army returned to capture Delhi, which was now with the sepoys. On 7 June, they faced stiff resistance from the sepoys at the Flagstaff Tower. A fierce battle followed which led to the killing and wounding of a great number of soldiers. However, by five in the evening the ridge had been recaptured and was now under...

One has to walk a bit to reach here. The road is dotted with feral monkeys and dogs. Evenings here are enjoyable with people running around it and with folks singing and playing instruments around this monument.

The flagstaff Tower itself is locked and one can't go inside it.

On ridge near The Delhi University ,we have this British era building which was originally said to be a Signal Tower.Located at a high point on ridge ,it was located near early British Cantonment .Gothic style architecture with half hearted castellated parapets makes it an interesting little monument .Today this tower stands hidden in the Keeker forest due British era afforestation drives which led to this non indigenous plant encroaching the entire ridge .Flagstaff Tower today attracts alot of Yoga enthusiasts and elderly who want some rest after long morning and evening walk .Whatever was the purpose of this Tower in the past ,it gives cultural character to this place these days .

It is a historical sites, which is said to be built in early 1800’s by the Britishers. It is a round structure which resembles like a fort. Entry inside flagstaff tower is not allowed and come with in aegis of archaeological survey of India. It is located in the Bonta park and can be considered to be centre of the paved roads/ running tracks, as roads in 4 directions goes from the Flagstaff power. You can rests and enjoy your evening and morning. You will find many people going running, walking and exercising. PS - there are lot of monkeys here.
