This museum offers a detailed and engaging journey through Kerala’s history, covering more than three thousand years of culture and heritage. It is located in a peaceful heritage building right across from the city zoo, surrounded by trees that add to the calm atmosphere.

Inside, the exhibits are well arranged across different galleries. You’ll find prehistoric tools, stone and bronze sculptures, old coins, mural paintings, palm-leaf manuscripts, musical instruments, and more. Some of the highlights include ancient stone axes, Roman-era coins, a beautiful bronze Nataraja, and temple murals that date back several centuries.

What makes this place different from typical museums is how they use modern techniques to present history. There are touchscreen displays, videos, and interactive panels that make it easy to follow and more enjoyable to learn. You don’t need to be a history expert to appreciate what’s here.

It usually takes one to two hours to see everything properly. The museum is clean, the staff are helpful, and there are basic facilities like restrooms and drinking water. Photography is allowed if you pay a small fee, but eating and video recording are not permitted inside.

If you enjoy learning about Kerala’s past in a clear and well-presented way, this museum is definitely worth visiting. It gives you a solid understanding of how the land, people, and culture...

KERALAM - Museum of history and heritage

According to pre-historic and historic evidences, Kerala has had a continuous history of more that 3,000 years. It was interestingly the lure of spices that led to the most momentous epoch in Kerala's history - one that ended with the formation of the state on November 1, 1956.

At KERALAM, this eventful history of Kerala - from the Stone Age to Iron Age, from foreign invasions to trade relations, from the evolution of kingdoms to the emergence of New Kerala will once again come to life.

The openness and catholicity of Keralan society will be on display at KERALAM that offers visitors an endearing taste of Keralan life in a Nalukettu, the traditional Kerala home, complete with a Poomukham (reception area), Nadumuttam (courtyard) and Adukkala (kitchen).

Enter KERALAM to take a trip back in time to this...

Photography is restricted inside the palace strictly! A must visit place if you are in trivandrum for a family trip, especially with kids. The cost of the ticket is 100 ₹per person for visiting two museums within the same premises - kudramalika + chitralayam. Both these museums have exhibits that refer to the thick cultural history of the kings lived in Kerala. Ecstatic collection of artifacts, mind blowing architecture, and workmanship. There was a private tour guide during our visit who was able to explain the history in detail. We spent more than an hour here visiting the palace. Please plan ahead and visit this place without fail. You will leave the place with a fulfilling mind! The pics I have posted here are taken at the outside of the palace.
