The peaceful Edava Manthara Temple, situated between Varkala beach and Kappil backwaters along the Arabian Sea, is primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, despite being known as the Manthara Sree Krishna temple. This temple is also called Thiruvambadi Sree Krishna Swamy temple, located at Manthara near Edava in Thiruvananthapuram district, the shrine honors Shiva – Mahadeva, Goddess Bhadrakali, and Bhagavan Sri Krishna. The annual Shivratri festival during Kumbha Masam and Ashtami Rohini in Chinga Masam is a significant celebration, drawing worshipers from near and far. The temple's lore tells of the fishermen retrieving the murti of Sri Krishna from the sea, adding a touch of mystique to this sacred site.

This is a very beautiful temple located in Manthara area near Varkala. It is built in a typical style of temples found in Kersla. Overall the village of Manthara has positive vibes and those get amplifies multifold the moment you enter the premises of this temple. If possible for you, then come by during aarti time in morning (around 9 am) or evening (around 7 pm). You can drive here or if you do not have own vehicle, you can take the bus from Varkala town, those run every 30 minutes.

Visited the temple to celebrate Mahashivratri. I was delighted by the spiritual atmosphere, the beautifully decorated temple in the unique Kerala tradition. The ceremony of carrying the gigantic, richly decorated tower in the arms of hundreds of people was the highlight of the festival. More videos on YouTube @goaindiatravel
