Warning long post.
Arrived on the 19 of December looking for lodging going one place after the other finding out they are all fully booked towards Xmas and new year. Since I’ve originally planned to stay at Varkala until the end of the month I didn’t realise it’s going to be an issue. Started from Helipad and eventually reached Odayam and Babu Farm resort. They had a room till the end of the month, which was on the one hand a relief yet on the other should have been a red flag…Room looked ok without paying too much attention since I was quite exhausted and desperate. Rates were expensive to begin with and then it was mentioned that it will be doubled starting from the 22nd…I decided I am too tired to look elsewhere. I was promised WiFi and A/C. When I relaxed and went to the shower I already felt the room floor was full of sand. The bed sheets had stains and the shower was a horror show. Mold everywhere, dirt in the tub, missing bath knob of the hot water…, no pressure in the shower, filthy walls, exposed electrical wires, missing bulbs, dusty curtains, dirty floor mats etc etc. if I was paying a frugal price then whatever but the rates were close to western standards… Tried to connect to the WiFi and no network was available. Went to the reception where I was told “oh, we meant WiFi is only available in the reception and dining area, not in the room…”. Ok. Tried it again outside and nothing. Seems it works occasionally. Then there were frequent electrical cutoffs so no a/c nor ceiling ventilator nor lights and no WiFi.
The next morning I asked for room cleaning. They came with no detergents to take the scum out. Spoke no English. I called few times the front desk yet nothing really helped. The place is full of dogs and cats full of ticks. They slept everywhere including the reception and the dining area and balcony. Sat for dinner accepting the fact it’s a ripoff. While ordering my meal I was shocked when the waiter asked me if I can make a downpayment for the room since they need cash due to a very large electricity bill. I left the place to eat somewhere else despite it’s quite a walk from this hotel back to the cliff. Swallowed the pill and tried to enjoy the beach. Black sand is not pleasant and dirt is all over. Lots of crows reminded me of the Hitchcock film… At night very loud music is played at the beach until late hours. Woke me up few times. There is a big mosque nearby that turns on the loudspeakers, and I do mean LOUD for their prayers, sometimes lasting over an hour which was a real nuisance. Many employees are sleeping on the dining room benches, floor and...
Read moreDO NOT GO IN!||On holiday over Xmas my family had a TERRIBLE experience here.|We paid a deposit for what promised to be a fun Christmas Eve do, I spoke with the manager and he said there would be a buffet with prawns, fun stuff for the kids, show etc. all good. Except we changed our minds as we heard about a better place to go that night. When we went back he refused to refund the deposit saying he had had to turn people away because it was all booked. so we went anyway hoping it would be good and busy at least.||It was a DISASTER from start to finish.||The outside dining area was brightly lit with flouro and screened off from the beach view. The buffet food took ages to be ready, no prawns in sight. In fact nobody in sight, we were the only group there apart from a dj and his girlfriend who were equally as disappointed and had been told to play awful Christmas tunes.||Kids entertainment was a scary looking Santa which I had to ask for as it was getting so late. The buffet was ok, at least there was a lot given we were the only ones there. ||The last straw was when my nephew was electrocuted by a badly wired light. He screamed blue murder at the shock of it and the other children panicked too. The manager didn't even come and see if he was ok. He then denied he had lied about the prawns and number of guests. We shouldn't have paid for the privilege of this fine night, he didn't even offer us a discount.||Please, don't go here. The SAMSARA harmony resort is divine for a place to stay and the palm tree heritage had great entertainment and...
Read moreI had high hopes for this resort, but the experience was a complete letdown. One of the biggest issues was that the resort is under construction, which they failed to inform us about during the booking process. We were looking forward to a peaceful vacation, but instead, we were met with constant noise, dust, and blocked facilities. The customer management made things even worse. The staff seemed disorganized and uninterested in helping. Check-in was chaotic, with long wait times and no clear instructions. When we raised concerns about the ongoing construction and the inconvenience it caused, the staff offered no apologies or solutions. Adding to the frustration, the breakfast service was consistently delayed, leaving us waiting much longer than expected. For a resort that markets itself as luxurious, this was completely unacceptable. The resort may have potential once construction is complete, but the lack of transparency and poor customer service completely ruined the experience for us. If you’re planning a stay here, think twice—you won’t get what...
