Odayam Beach Varkala — Attraction in Kerala

Beautiful, relaxing beach but be aware of occasional dogs problem. While Odayam beach is relatively quiet, safe and nicer to walk on and appreciate the sea and sun than the main Varkala cliff beach, there are one or two packs of stray dogs that can occasionally get very aggressive and target you for no apparent reason. A local man, apparently from the Bluewater Beach Resort immediately overlooking the beach, was rude and aggressive when I reacted, saying foreigners like dogs and I should only react if I was bitten! While generally it's OK, be watchful, call for help, and maybe pick up a big stick to ward them off if you are threatened by a dog pack. Dogs are also a problem on isolated stretches of the beach trail north from Odayam to Kappil beach. The irresponsible encouragement of stray dogs by some foreign tourists exacerbates...

I really loved this Beach. This is, I can say, is a hidden gem in Varkala as Varkala beach is very crowded these days. Odayam Beach being unexplored gives you a very rich experience of being peaceful and enjoy solitude with nature. It was my two days' trip and on the very first day we visited the Varkala Beach but we didn't like it much due to the fact that it was very crowded and we were looking for a peaceful beach then we ended up to this beach and it was a very good experience overall.
