Visiting the Lighthouse with my family was a delightful experience. The ticketing process was straightforward, and the staff were courteous and helpful throughout. We arrived around 4 pm to ensure we had enough time to explore the premises and ascend to the top. The climb to the viewing platform was manageable, though visitors should be aware that it involves stairs and may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. The Lighthouse compound itself is well-maintained, with clean pathways and informative displays detailing the history of the lighthouse and its significance in guiding ships along the Malabar Coast. It's not just a place to see; it's a place to learn about Kerala's maritime heritage. One highlight of our visit was definitely the sunset view. As the evening descended, we watched in awe as the sky transformed into a canvas of colors, casting a warm glow over the sea and the surrounding cliffs. It was a serene moment, perfect for relaxation and reflection. The closing time at 5 pm was slightly early for our liking, as we would have loved to linger a bit longer to soak in the atmosphere. However, it did ensure that we left with ample daylight, which is important for navigating the descent safely. Overall, the Lighthouse at Kovalam is a gem of a tourist attraction that should not be missed when visiting Kerala. Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply looking for a serene spot to unwind with family, this place ticks all the boxes. A landmark lighthouse, very well maintained with breath taking views from the top. Though a lift exists to take one up about 4 floors, the final flight of steps to reach the viewing balcony is basically a vertical ladder. Not recommended for the very elderly or wheel chaired, but a must visit for all others. With views of the vast ocean, scenic beaches, the harbour and coconut trees lining the coast line, the experience is memorable indeed. Gusty winds running through hair an d a sunset to mesmerise... the setting is perfect. Charges for entry, Parking and mobile photography exist but are not too expensive for the trip. The queue is moderately long and regulated as space on the top is restricted. follow up with a trip to the beach nearby and the evening is well spent. The lighthouse has a rich history and is the southernmost light house along the Kerala coast line. The lighthouse is equipped with Powerful metal halide lamps and direct drive mechanism to rotate the directed beam. The Vizhinjam light house is closed for public after five pm and has a weekly off day on monday. Overall a must visit for tourists. Footwear is Prohibited inside the lighthouse to Maintain cleanliness apparently, which is a little Strange but maybe abo helps with people not slipping on the narrow steps, ladders and Staircases

The views of beach and sea are amazing from this structure. If you are visiting kovalam beach, visiting this tower is definitely recommended, as you will mesmerized by the views it offers. Pros - * Very near to kovalam beach. * Views of the beach and sea are just breathtaking. * Entry fees is just 20 Rs for Indian citizens. * Eateries available for Tea, Coffee, breakfast at the place. * There is also a Children's park. * Swimming Pool like structure is in construction so that visitors can have a bath near the ocean. * Staff very helpful. * cloak facility available at the place, although it is only for shoes and small items. * Area is clean, well painted and maintained. * Facility to sit beside the tower to take a view at the ocean. * Able to take Instagram worthy pics from here. * Panaroma view of complete kovalam beach visible from the top of lighthouse tower. Cons * Lift is very small and steps are so many - 200+, so entering and exiting the structure can take time. * Place closes early at around 4 PM, but check for the correct timings. * Evacuation takes time. In case of some emergency it can be life threatening. * Safety measures not followed property 😑. * They only accept cash at counters for entry fees, no UPI or cards.

Upon entering the lighthouse, there are stairs as well as a lift. It's recommended to take the stairs, allowing you to peep through the windows in between and capture scenes along the ascent. However, reaching the top involves a nearly 90-degree ladder, posing a challenge for some elderly individuals. Despite the climb, the view from the top is heavenly, offering a breathtaking panorama of Kovalam Beach and its surroundings that words can hardly describe. The entry fee is 20 rs, and an additional 10 rs is charged for photography, even if it's for a mobile. The location provides ample parking space, and amenities include washrooms and a small canteen. In summary, with its panoramic vistas and iconic status, the lighthouse is a must-visit place when exploring Kovalam.

Well maintained and must visit place in Trivandrum. You will get a bird's eye view of the kovalam and vizhinjam coastline. The light house compound has parking space, toilets and a cafeteria. We went at 12 noon and were worried that we would be fried under the Sun. However, once you are at the top you won't feel the heat as the wind is so strong and cool. The lighthouse has a lift till the second floor. However, you have to climb two more floors, the final one being a bit steep and so the elderly may face difficulties in climbing the final steep ladder. The view from the top is amazing. The light house compound also has a children's play ground which was not well maintained at the time of visit. The ticket rates are cheap. Two adults plus a still camera costed only Rs. 70/-. You have to remove your footwear before entering the lighthouse. There is a place to deposit your footwear. There is ample parking space too.

Vizhinjam Lighthouse or Trivandrum Lighthouse is situated near Kovalam beach in Kerala. It started functioning on 30 June 1972. Vizhinjam was a busy seaport in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Before the current light was installed, there were no lighthouses at this location.
