I started and ended my solo trip to Kerala with a coffee from this amazing place. I am already looking forward to returning here on my next trip.
Location: It's one of the first places you see when you walk into the lighthouse beach. It has a good view of the lighthouse and the sea if you're sitting outside. It's a little difficult to park if you're driving. I recommend either parking at the main entrance of the lighthouse beach and taking a walk along the beach to the lighthouse corner, or utilizing the 'pay and park' spots near the hotels around the lighthouse and following the paved trail to reach here.
Food: As someone who tends to favor milder flavors, I was delighted to find that this place excels in catering to those preferences. Their seafood dishes are outstanding and I loved the seafood burger that i tried on one of my visits. I visited mostly during mornings, so tried some of their breakfast platters, and loved all of those too. The food presentation was consistently impressive.
If you're one who prefers the spicy and heavy indian cuisine, this is probably not the place for you.
Coffee: I tried cardamom coffee, filter coffee and good old cappuccino. The cardamom coffee was very interesting, I guess I am gonna be brewing that for myself at home quite often now. Suggestion to restaurant: maybe add some latte art for presentation in your milk based coffees?
Ambiance: I prefer my meals in peace and quiet. And that I got plenty of during the morning hours here.
Price: Coming from Hyderabad which has a much more commercialized restaurant and cafe scene, contrary to some reviews here I felt this place is very reasonably priced.
Service/Staff: The best. Lucy and Kaine (apologies if I misspelled) - I hope the two of you are gonna be here the next time I visit.
Overall, 10/10,...
Read moreBeatles Café sits right on the seaside pathway at Kovalam Beach, offering a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea and the Vizhinjam Lighthouse. From the outside, it looks inviting—the whole café is designed with wooden interiors, giving it a rustic feel, and the seating arrangement is comfortable enough to sit back, relax, and enjoy the sea breeze. On ambience and location, the café scores well.
Now, coming to the food—this is where things fell apart for me. We were two people, and we ordered: • Margherita Pizza (₹600) – Honestly, a big disappointment. The flavor was flat, the texture was off, and it didn’t taste like something worth even ₹200. If I had to rate it, it would be a minus one out of five. • Vegetable Sandwich (₹300) – Decent, I’d give it a three out of five. The sandwich itself was average, but the potato wedges served alongside were actually the star of the meal—crispy, seasoned well, and easily a five on five.
The major downside? The pricing. We ended up paying around ₹1,100 for just these two items and left neither full nor satisfied. For that cost, the food should’ve been far more flavorful and substantial.
What I did like, though, was the service. The staff were polite, attentive, and kept checking if we needed anything else. Service was quick, and that’s probably the one saving grace here.
🌟 Pros: • Lovely seaside location with views of the lighthouse. • Wooden, rustic seating that feels cozy. • Attentive and quick service.
⚠️ Cons: • Overpriced food with very poor flavor. • Quantity too small for the cost. • Ambience nice, but honestly, the vibe didn’t feel very “Beatles” or special—it felt like just another café.
Rating: 2/5 – Go for the view and maybe a drink or some light snacks, but if you’re looking for a good meal, this might not...
Read moreI read an article in a Malayalam travel magazine “Yatra” about this restaurant. The article was really praising the quality and taste of food, the ambience and the service. The reviewer was praising much about a particular dish, the Seafood Platter. It is a basket of boiled mussels, grilled fish, prawns, and lobster etc, garnished with sauces and green salad and bread. I could not stop me myself from visiting this place after reading the article. I visited the Beatles restaurant once, ordered for a Seafood platter. In few minutes I got a welcome drink, it was good and then started my waiting for food. I patiently wait for about 45 minutes, dreaming the fantastic taste of much hyped dish; finally I got my Seafood platter. It was a grilled red snapper (300-400 grams), 5 pieces of boiled mussels without any masala, bread, some green vegetables and sauces. No shrimps and prone. The taste of the red snapper was horrible, it was very old fish. I did not like the taste of mussels without any masalas and salt. I could hardly manage to eat only half portion of the fish, 2-3 mussels and had all the vegetables and bread. I complained about the taste and quality of food to the staff, the reply was “Sir, some peoples like the taste and others not”. The bill was a whopping Rs.1500 for the nasty food. The ambience was superb in this location. Dining facing the beach and sea is really enjoyable. There are many other restaurants in Kovalam beach in the same location. I suspect the review by the magazine was a paid review and I stopped the subscription...
