Nongpok Thong, which translates to the Eastern Gate, is one of the main entrances to the Kangla Fort. The gate is not just a physical entry point but also carries deep symbolic meaning. It reflects the architectural, cultural, and historical ethos of the Manipuri people and their kingdom. Gates like the Nongpok Thong were integral parts of the fort's defenses but also served ceremonial and administrative functions.Kangla has undergone various phases of construction, destruction, and renovation throughout its history, especially during and after the British colonial period. Efforts have been made to restore and preserve its structures, including the gates, to ensure that they continue to tell the story of Manipur's rich past.Visiting Kangla and observing structures like the Nongpok Thong offers insights into the kingdom's administrative sophistication, architectural ingenuity, and the cultural importance of the site to the Meitei people. It's a reminder of the historical depth of the region and the continuity of its traditions despite the changes and challenges over...
ย ย ย Read moreWell, another new addition of Imphal's landscape to appease the ever growing adventurist appetite of the people of this land. Kudos to Imphal Smart City Project and Manipur Govt. The walk, the set up and other structures, right upto the bridge near the Nongpok thong is great, but as usual, parking lot is one small but important aspect our landscapers seemed to forget. Here also, the same problem, a small parking area, while the rest of the vehicles pan out into the adjacent roads and areas on either side of Sanjenthong causing chaos n traffic jam. While efforts have been made to keep the walk clean, with dust bins kept at regular spacing, our visitors seemed more than excited to litter bottles and food packets at will. Also, i wished the authority could extend the visiting hours by 1 hour till say 8 pm, that way more people could enjoy the park in the relatively cooler ambience of...

The other day, I was on my way back home after picking my son up from school and my son and I had a little time to spare so we took a walk inside. Although not spacious, I find it enough to come and just chill. Do nothing but sit and relax. The open gym kept my son busy while I sat on one of the benches and thought about what a failure I had become ๐ Jokes apart, I truly appreciate the governmentโs effort for coming up with a space in the heart of Imphal city. I hope the govt will introduce โbuskingโ here. It would surely lighten...
