The beautiful Godavari river is flowing bountiful, graceful and nicely in a warm & pleasant sun shine. Nearby is Godavari devi temple, again another Godavari temple that opens once in 12 years for the Kumbh mela. I am told that the next Kumbh mela in Nashik is in 2027. Also, nearby is the Kapalishwar temple, a bit steep to climb but not very difficult. Alternately, there is side access with only slope and very few steps to climb and reach the temple. There is also the beautiful temple of 'Kalaram'. It's ancient, so well carved structures, clean, architecturally beautiful and with an air of serenity. There are also, Sita gufa, Goraram temple, Lord Subrahmanya temple resembling the idol of Palani Subrahmanya and others. All these are within walkable distance and would take about an hour by walk. Keeping a guide will help one understand the area better. Ramkund is a very sacred place where Sri Ram spent considerable time. The area is also known as Panchvati. Hope it's useful.

Holy land for the believers of Ramayana, Panchvati attracts a lot of pilgrims. A serene town located near Nasik, the site offers small sightings having a lot of significance in the epic of Ramayana. Given the legend of Panchvati, the place holds a lot of religious significance even in the present day. Sites such as the Kalaram Temple and the Sita Gufaa are on every pilgrims list. The Kumbh Mela takes place on the river banks of Godavari, and has a surplus of pilgrims from every corner of world during the occasion. The city of Nasik has great significance in Hindu religion, and Panchvati has its own share of legends associated with it. It is believed that when Lord Ram along with Sita and Lakshman went into exile for 14 years, they made Panchavati their home. The word literally means 'Garden of Five Banyan Trees'. The trees can still be seen in the temple premises near Sita Gufaa and are believed to have existed even during the times of Ramayana.

Nashik Panchavati We left for Nasik from Pune by bus on the 28th of May 2012 from Shivaji Nagar Bus Terminus early in the morning. It took us about 5 hours to reach Nashik Bus Terminus. We had booked a room with double cot at Hotel Royal Heritage which was close to the Bus Terminus. Our room was on the first floor and was comfortable. It was neat and clean and after freshening up had the lunch we had packed from home and then engaged an auto to look around. Our first stop was Ram Kund. This is Godavari river where Sri Rama Seetha Lakshman used to bathe when they were in Vanvas. This teerth is called Astivilayakund and has the capacity to dissolve bones. This was built by a landowner of Satara by name Chitrarao Khatav in the 17th century and periodically repaired by the Peshvas. The bathing ghat is impressive and has a temple for Ganga Godavari .People can be seen bathing in its cool waters and one feels blessed to be at this hallowed spot.

Ram Kund Nashik is the spiritual tank built-in 1696. The aborigine state of Lord Rama and his wife Sita used this tank for a bath during the years of separation. A dip in this holy kund is considered very precious. During Kumbha Mela 1000’s of Saints, holy men and millions of devotees immerse in the holy Kund and Kushavarta Lake. Ram Kund is also called as Asthi Vilaya Teertha. Ramkund Timings: 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Best time to visit is early morning and sunset. Ramkund The most important place in Panchavati is Ramkund. It is so called because Lord Rama is believed to have taken bath there. The Ram Kund area has several temples like the Sundara Narayana Temple, the Naro Shankara Mandir and the Kapaleshwara temple. Ram Kund is also called Asthi Vilaya Tirtha, which dissolves the bones dead fropped into it. During Kumbhmela the famous Kumbh Snan / bath is supposed to happen here in PAVITRA RAMKUND. Ramkund Hundreds of pilgrims arrive here to take a holy dip at the ‘Ramkund’ in the river Godavari, which is considered the ‘Ganges of the south’. Ramkund is the spot where the river Godavari turns to right at an angle of 90 degrees and gains importance, as Lord Ram is said to have taken his daily bath here, during his stay at Nashik. Ram Kund is also where hindus perform the last rite of their dead.
