The temple is dedicated to the warrior God Lord Ayyappa who is believed to be the son of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu (in the incarnation of Mohini). The idol of the deity is housed in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Adjacent to the central temple is a big and equally important temple of Lord Shiva. In addition to the two, subsidiary temples of "Nav Grah", Lord Ganesha, Lord Ram and Mahakali grace the temple area with their presence. The devotees take up circumambulation on "Pradakshina" encircling the sanctum sanctorum. The inside of the temple looks serious and pious, with tranquillity showering around.
The temple compound is very clean and orderly. Entering through a vestibule, a barefoot devotee sees a brass high-mast or "Dhwaj Stambh" and a grand "Peepal" (Ficus religiosa) tree to the left. Devotees used to offer oblation in the form of lighted "Diya". Inside the temple, hanging brass candelabra adds a mystic hue to the whole temple ambience. They look serene when lighted after sunset. The sanctum sanctorum is also lighted with these types of lamps. No electricity is used to illuminate the sanctum sanctorum of the main temple and subsidiary temples.
The "Darshan" (auspicious prayers and viewing) in the temple is timed. It opens during morning and evening times with slight seasonal variations. There is an excellent arrangement for shoe keeping and feet washing before entering the temple. The location of the temple significantly contributes to its pious and serene ambience, tranquillity, and, above all, a lot of positivity. It is a place which gives ample soothing things and...
