One of the most inspiring things to witness! The hike to ijen crater is very steep and it will take you a good 1.5h to get to the top. The descent into the crater is very challenging since the rocks can be slippery, you have to avoid miners and most of all - THE SULFUR SMOKE! if the cloud of gas catches you and you inhale it, it will burn your airways and you will start to cough, cry and have a lossy nose. I would not recommend this for small children or inexperienced influences trying to get a good photo of the blue flame. As long as you don't descent into the crater, mine or lake and just observe the volcano from the Rim you are good. I recommend to visit in the morning cuz the view with sunrise is spectacular!

I booked the Ijen Crater bluefire and sunrise tour through Get Your Guide because they had the best deal, and it turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The bluefire was incredible and the sunrise was breathtaking. The hike is about 8 miles round trip in the dark starting around 2 am, so it’s a bit challenging, but worth every step. We got picked up around midnight and started the hike at 2. Our guides were wonderful—very informative, caring, and they even took lots of photos for us. There are also taxis available if you get too tired, though they cost around $100. Overall, an unforgettable experience that I highly recommend.

Ijen was honestly one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The hike took a bit over an hour – not easy, especially in the dark – but so worth it once you get to the top. Seeing the blue fire up close was surreal 🤩✨ Nevertheless, the sulfur (belerang) smell is really strong, so a mask is a must. But once you get past that, the views are absolutely incredible. The crater, the lake, the sunrise... everything just felt magical. If you’re up for a bit of an adventure, this is something you’ll never forget.

The view at the morning was really good but...

We took group trip so we start at night with bunch others people. Hike is bit hard but that ok, worst part is that a lot of locals smoking cigarettes, trash is everywhere.

We do not go down to see blue flame as was tight and dangerous. After sunrise you mast go down because of group is going down. Locals pay 30k for entry ticket Tourists 150k That part is disgusting, we are charged 5x more and trash is everywhere, you need to smell cigarettes, Never again group trip!

Personally I don't think that was worth visit.

If you want do do it rent a scooter and make that trip...
