Mimpi Catering Bali — Attraction in Pulau Bali

Recently had Mimpi cater our wedding. I agonised over this decision. They are very reasonably priced and the reviews are really good!!!! Ultimately I was let down on the night and wish I went elsewhere. We had the prawn cocktail and Cesar salad as entrees - the two pieces of chicken were SO dry and the prawns were over handled (bitty?) and did not seem fresh - I did not eat either. We had the fish and beef as the mains - the beef was chewy and fatty and was alongside some weird kind of bitty mash - for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what it was but looked the next day and it was supposed to be “creamy” polenta - this was the most common discussion point from guests - in a negative way. For desert we had a block of “brownie” which was extremely heavy - i would have expected more of a moist consistency and alongside some ice cream or similar to contast. The positives: The staff are lovely, the canapés were tasty (but cold?) and the fish (main) was ok!

Ultimately a lot of plates went back with un eaten food on, I hardly ate a thing at my own wedding and I found myself apologising to guests and was embarrassed. My planner helped me contact the owner. Nadine apologised and said they have struggled locking down quality suppliers and gave me a partial refund which I appreciate but ultimately told me taste is subjective (re:desert) and it was a mis match of expectations and has since removed my planner from a popular Facebook group that is used to advertise available vendors (very concerning behaviour) Shout of to Tristan @ Bali Brides!!!!!! (to note; I have since heard that the quality has significantly deteriorated over the last 6 months)

My expectation was fresh and yummy food so if you too want that go elsewhere.

Update: the owner has contacted me regarding defamation laws in Indonesia. I’ve specified a little but stand by this review.

Without a doubt I’m so very glad I chose to use Mimpi’s catering for my week-long wedding celebration. Trying to plan a wedding celebration half way around the world on my own without a wedding planner would have honestly been a nightmare if not for Dasha and her team. They are beyond professional and helpful, answered all my questions quickly and in depth, and took care of everything so beautifully I couldn’t be more happy.

We ended up having them do quite literally everything: 2 brunches with champagne, 2 dinners, wedding table decor, flowers and bouquet, wedding arch and lanterns, wedding cake, waitstaff, bartenders the whole 9 yards - and everything was PERFECT. Food was spectacular - we went with their two different gourmet brunches, Asian set menu for the rehearsal, and Asian sharing menu for the wedding itself. I was particularly fond of the Asian sharing as it gives everyone an opportunity to try many different dishes.

What is amazing is they have a robust menu full of vegan, gluten free and dairy free options that catered to all of my guests needs perfectly but didn’t skim on flavor. One of my fav dishes was their cream of spinach using coconut milk - never had anything like that in my life and it was amazing! But truly - wedding food always tends to be subpar to me and I’m a foodie and very particular - and this exceeded our expectations.

The wedding cake itself was beautiful and super interesting. We went with a chocolate cake with raspberry filling and white frosting but it had almost a chocolate banana bread flavor and texture and it was honestly surprisingly good and light. The whipped frosting they used was also delicious and I’m surprised held up perfectly in Bali heat!

If you’re planning an event and want it to be top notch, have everyone tell you it’s amazing, and go off without a hitch - hire...

We had our commitment ceremony in Bali earlier this year, and planned everything remotely from Australia. Mimpi Catering Bali made everything so simple, and we are forever grateful to them for making our day so special with their exceptional planning and service. We opted for finger food, the Asian style family sharing food, the table decor base package, a wedding arch with dried and fresh flowers, festoon lighting, dining tables and chairs, and Balinese fire dancing. The price for everything included in the package was very reasonable, and the presentation and quality of everything far exceeded our expectations! I sent a couple of inspiration photos for our theme, but the table decor and flower arrangements provided by Mimpi were better than what I had provided. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff were friendly and professional. The fire dancing was an absolute hit and had everyone mesmerised in awe. I would like an excuse to have another event in Bali just so we can use Mimpi again. Thank you Mimpi for making our day one...
