Some restaurants have a great view, but you can't eat a view. This place has a decently nice view off one side, but the real beautiful view is that of the kitchen. Chef Andy is absolutely legit.
The kitchen is right in front of you to see, as Chef Andy and what appears to be his cooks/apprentices cut all the fresh veggies in front of you, shred the cheese, mix the guac, etc. Everything appears very fresh. Chef Andy discreetly tastes his food before it leaves the kitchen, as any legit chef would do. While he masterfully works, he also keeps an eye on the younger contributors in the kitchen, sometimes touching up their work or seemingly offering educational criticism. When he finishes up the orders in front of him, he paces around a bit anxiously like a panther in a cage, waiting for another ticket to get back to what he does so well. you can tell he takes pride in his work. First time I got a crunch wraps, second time I got a quesadilla - both were superb.
I will say that it isn't exactly like Mexican food back in the USA, but it is so good and professional that it offers a unique, perhaps original spin on old dishes. In some ways, it could be better than the Mexican food in Mexico/US. It tastes and feels so fresh, clean, and healthy even... certainly with more veggies mixed in with the dishes than in any Mexican owned Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. This guy should have his own restaurant back in the states.
Oh and one last thing - and this is a biggie for me - the price is reasonable. Priced as it is currently, I went multiple times with my fiancee and mom.
I plan to drop by every year I come to Bali. My fiancee is Indonesian, so I think that will be every year for the foreseeable future. It was a pleasure. Don't...
Read moreThis is my second time at sizzle wrap and Google in it's creepy way knew that and suggested I post a review. So I'm easily swayed and influenced by google so please consider that when you read this review.
I love Mexican food and have been to Mexico multiple times and have visited over 15 cities in Mexico so I know Mexican food not to mention that I had my best burrito in California in some unnamed town I was riding through.
I've been disappointed in Mexican food in Bali. The biggest disappointment came last week when I went to Mexicola for dinner and was told I can only order appetizers which was inconvenient and the food was frankly not good.
Today I had the beef burrito. They serve you corn chips with 3 sauces while you wait for you food, which was nice. Sauces were not authentic but good. The burrito was well wrapped and tasty just the rice content was a little high in relation to the meat and vegetable content but in all fairness it was very tasty. The avocado dip that comes on the side was also yummy.
Overall, it is not on my list of overall best Mexican restaurant but nibali/Canggu area, it's the best choice if you are in the mood for...
Read moreReally good food. We had a burrito, nachos, a quesadilla and a crunch wrap. (We came here twice!)
The service was friendly and quick, the atmosphere really cozy and nice and the food tasty.
A couple minuses: First, their menu said that they have kombucha, but on that particular day they didn't have it. It was still on the menu and I was disappointed.
Then the food. It was good, like I said, but it felt like something was missing. I don't know, maybe lime or coriander or chilli or... If I was cooking it I would add more spices. They have sauces on the table (tomato, chipotle and coriander) and only adding those sauces made the food taste delicious to me. I feel like it should taste delicious without the table sauce.
But yeah, we did come here twice, and it is a really good restaurant....
