I have heard great things about babi guling so I was eager to try it. I happened to be close to this warung, saw it had great reviews, so decided to try.
It may be a misunderstanding, but I assumed babi guling was like a traditional hog roast/pig on a spit type of thing, and was expecting the delicious succulent roast pork and perfectly crispy crackling that you get in (for example) the Oink takeaway in Edinburgh.
But the babi guling I had was not like that. I had a plate of pork prepared in a variety of different ways. Some shredded roast pork, some thin hard pieces, a delicious soup with pork balls (round pieces of pork meat, not pig testicles, I hope!), crispy pork skin, and others I can't recall now. It was all quite tasty and well prepared, with some nice and fresh vegetable sides. After I got over my initial disappointment that it wasn't a gluttonous plateful of shredded roast pork, I very much enjoyed the variety of little portions of different pork. Very interesting.
The place is a warung style decor, so not like a western restaurant, but plenty of space. The tables and chairs were solid, and everything was clean and tidy. Despite being on a main road there was very little noise. The staff are very friendly and...
Read moreThis without a doubt has been the best babi guling ive ever had in my stay here in bali. The customer service just impeccable being greeted by the kind ladies up front with smiles on their faces. The food was just above my expectations due to me having prior babi guling that was miles behind swari’s. I had to get a takeout to eat before my flight because I will never have the same refined quality that swari’s babi guling is, in America. Even while i was getting my takeout, the ladies were worried about the quality of till i got home and separated everything for me so it would be as fresh as possible when i eat it. This made me want to have my last dying meal as swari’s...
Read moreWhat other reviews said are true - it’s my preferred choice for Babi Guling in Canggu. Kinda a hidden gem. I came on a Saturday noon and the store was empty, doing mainly Grab deliveries. I felt more comfortable eating here than with the big crowd in other stores. The food was also good - I had the complete packet with es jeruk (orange juice) for a very affordable price. The balance of taste between the meat, sambal, soup, vege etc was great - the skin was a little tough although crispy but the best part was what seemed like very crispy fried chicken skin. Yums. 😋 I won’t go back to the other more popular stores nearby, but...
