Adare Heritage Centre — Attraction in County Limerick

A very nice place to stop, shop in the gift shops, use the rest rooms, get something to eat and get acquainted with Adare. Right outside the door is a beautiful church that was being prepared for a wedding, later that day. Flowers and vines were being added to the church columns, providing a nice decorative touch. The choir was practicing and their voices were exquisite. I'm sure that wedding was a beautiful event. Down the road, a very short distance from the Adare Heritage Centre, are a number of thatched roof buildings that are a treat to see. It's amazing what can be done with materials at hand, when a problem needs to be solved. Thatch was available as the material and rain protection was the problem. Thatch material was utilized to solve the weather problem. Thatch provided for a long term solution to the problem and provided a decorative application of the material. Thatch isn't used much anymore due to it flammability issues. Adare is a beautiful town and the Heritage Centre is a wonderful jumping off point to begin your exploration...

The Adare Heritage Centre is a great place to stop when visiting the beautiful village of Adare. It’s right in the centre of town, easy to find, and full of interesting information about Adare’s history and heritage. Inside, you’ll find a small but well-presented exhibition that tells the story of the village, its medieval origins, and the famous thatched cottages that make Adare so charming.

The staff are friendly and happy to share tips about what to see around the area, including Adare Manor, the old churches, and the local craft shops. There’s also a gift shop with lovely Irish-made products and a nice café that’s perfect for a coffee or light lunch.

Parking is free and right outside, which makes it an easy and convenient stop.
