Brought my wee boy up to Malahide to have a look at this. Hoped that it was similar to the one that was previously in Malahide Castle. It definitely is not. Not even close. Booking online is ok and the price of the tickets are reasonable. When we arrived I asked why there were no model trains running and was informed that they didn't know but there was a technician looking into it. After 30 minutes of looking around the museum again, one train moved for a short time then another. That was it unfortunately. To be fair, the staff were very good apologised. They asked would be come back again. We probably will because it will get better I'm sure. The Casino where the railway is displayed is small enough. There are plenty of model trains to see it glass cases and a good history of them too. Maybe they will have some more items on show next time. Beautiful...
ย ย ย Read moreHello everyone!๐ Realistically: the place is very small, so keep this in mind before spending your money. With that being said, the museum is lovely, especially for kids who love trains and models. Went with family a few weeks ago, had fun with the touch screen that you can use to find out more about the trains. Had fun with the automatic train models as well. It was possible to take pictures. About this, actually, one of the receptionists was so kind! My father was taking a picture of me, mum and brother, and the lady was so kind to ask to take the picture so that my father could be included.
(plus, the receptionists didn't judge when I had a loud "awww moment" in front of the stuff toys. Please have a look at Bunny in the photo below ๐ sooo...

What i saw was an overelabourate landscape model of 3 stations too high up for a child to appreciate. There were loads of amazing model trains locked away behind glass, which I am sure Mr. Fry designed, built, and intended them to be moving. The same words and sentences were used many times to describe the exhibits. Like padding out. The interactive screen took a lot of time to read, but you had to wait your turn. There was little or no logic to the flow of the exhibit which left me retracing my steps to make sure that nothing was missed. An opportunity lost by the designers of the...
