5 stars are for the building and 0 stars for the last members of the Lawrence family who sold the castle. The same family owned the castle for 840 years, passed down through generations. I would love to know how previous generations of the family feel about their ancestral home getting sold. Am sure many struggled financially but managed to protect the castle . I dont think I could sell something so precious that was inherited and entrusted by each generation of the family. I would feel more like the guardian than owner. I only hope that Fingal and planning authorities dont allow any changes that would change the integrity of this beautiful structure. Hopefully the investment group who bought it respects such a beautiful castle. It could have been donated to the Irish government and office of public works as the surrounding lands and hotel undoubtedly would have giving the Lawrence family millions. Sad to see a family legacy of 840 years...

The so called "howth Christmas market" of 2022 was missing the "market" part of its market.

Went there expecting more than 2 stalls (one with pictures and pottery and the other with jewelery) and the standard fare food and drink options you would get at any carnival. The whole appeal of going and buying circus tickets was the market... which was a complete let down.

The media around the event was an utter lie. Dublin Live, Irish Mirror, Buzz, Dublin Gazette and so many more lied, dressing up the event up as somewhere to spend the last weekend before Christmas with lots of stalls to browse and enjoy when in reality it was a circus tent with very little else to offer anyone other...

Visited cafe today for lunch. Over priced sandwiches or soup were the choices. Embarrassed to be Irish with the appalling state of the toilets. Few foreign visitors asked were these only toilet available!! No toilet paper or soap to wash hands . Baskets overflow with towel paper. Asked to.speak to a manager/customer service. Explained my findings and "sorry" staff were busy to check toilets but would do following my complaint. She also said ah sure we closing down in Sept anyway. Personally it should never be allowed to operate in such conditions and not surprised we feel nausea. Customer service...

Did you catch the birds 🕊️🥹 Welcome to Ireland 🇮🇪☘️ home to more than 30,000 castles and stunning lush landscapes where you’ll live all your fairytale dreams like I did in this castle and dress by @newyorkdress 😍💃🏻🏰 This is Howth Castle, a historical gem dating back to the 12th century, located just a 30 minute drive from Dublin. Strolling through its beautiful grounds (open for free to the public, while the inside remains private) felt like a step back in time ✨ It’s not a very popular castle and quite small so we got to enjoy it to ourselves for a couple of hours! Definitely add it to your list! Took a guided architecture tour for Heritage week. The castle grounds are very beautiful, with well kept gardens and interesting stonework. The inside of the castle is very ornate with lots of pretty decorative plaster work and paintings, although most of the furniture and decorations are missing. The architectural history of the sight is very interesting and is reflected in the stone work and plaster work inside. Great work has been done on the restoration and I look forward to its opening to the public.

Car park is tiny and badly sign-posted (there is a sign that says to go straight which leads you to the Deer Park golf club car park but the castle car park is to the right). There is no access to the castle itself so you can only walk around a bit and visit the coffee shop. Nothing to see here folks... Pretty boring. If you're in to antique vehicles though, visit the national transport museum- that was interesting.
